Here it is in the car:

I'm tempted to get some paint stripper and take the can down to bare metal and repainted...

Nice find!!

Went on a nice long drive around the hills that encircle Santa Barbara. Its really cloudy down here in the city:

Up on top the road is actually above the clouds!

Probably about 40 miles of twisties

and then coming back down through the clouds:

Yes exactly, it was Memorial Day so the shooting range was getting a lot of use.

The hood is in Oakland waiting for a bus with lots of room that is heading south. Once it gets to Santa Barbara you can expect a lot of new photos! Can't wait

I'm picking up a rust free hood from Jack. It should ship tuesday and arrive here soon!

Took the car to cars and coffee in the rain today. My wipers work but need new rubber. What is the best source for that?

I have some NOS ones here for $15 shipped.

Jack 06-07-2016 04:05 PM

I need to find my old pictures of similar view. Mountains look like islands surrounded by clouds .. I miss that drive... except when the road got washed away and wife and I had to go through Buelton to get to SB ..50miles each way.... that was not fun.

Cant wait to see pictures!

Very nice!
I love tower paint. Be sure and spray it nice and thick, but don't run it!

if you do get runs, grab a tube of glazing putty, when your paint is ready to be wet sanded, skim over the run with glazing putty to surround the run, then wet sand on that until the putty is gone, that way you really only sand on the high of the run and wont burn through surrounding paint.

Looking good.

Waiting on the paint to arrive for the hood. In the mean time a few parts that I ordered from VP showed up:

https://c2.staticflickr.com/8/7295/2...7cf2aa88_c.jpg

This is the little plastic trim that goes above the dash. You can tell that mine was really shot.

I also ordered new door switches so that the overhead lights would work as designed...

https://c5.staticflickr.com/8/7700/2...4929702c_c.jpg

Not so fast, the new parts wont fit in the doors and take two wires instead of the single that came on the car. Gotta decide what to do now.

Jack 06-17-2016 11:23 PM

Seems like old switch too ground directly to the body.
Enlarge the hole and run a ground

Thats what I will do... right after I paint the hood! As soon as I finished that post UPS delivered the cans of paint. Can't wait to get the hood refinished

hiperfauto 06-18-2016 12:43 AM

Both the contacts on that switch go to ground with the door open. The single terminal switch is NLA, so you have to use the later switch that has 2 terminals. One is for the dome light, the other is for the seat belt interlock system which your car doesn't have.

Thank you, I will make it work then.

I appreciate that Marc, but since I already have these I will probably just continue on that route!

Coupid 07-02-2016 04:04 PM

Finally had some free time to paint the new hood.

https://c7.staticflickr.com/8/7488/2...5556d152_c.jpg

I still need to sand and polish but I want to give the new paint to really dry before I start working on it. Its a really good match for the factory paint:

Thanks!

I wet sanded it with 1500 which left me with a relatively flat surface. I ordered some 3000 so I can work on getting it to shine
