I had a similar situation and it went away after I took the heat sink off the power stage and re-applied some thermal paste.

Does the car start after it has cooled off?

I timed mine with the cams / valve cover marks...

I timed mine with the cams / valve cover marks aligned and the crank / aux pulley marks aligned with the marks on the engine. Make sure you are using the mark at the timing belt pulley on the crank...
