What needs changed turbo or conv.

The gearing may not be ideal either. 17 inch wheels behind a transmission intended for a V8...

You could get smaller wheels or change the rear axle ratio.

2.7 second 60ft isn't good.

What are you talking about? The 4L60E has a 3:1 first gear.

245/40R17 is actually a bit smaller tire than a 205/55R16. I shoulda paid more attention. I was in tranny class.

I'm getting a little more practice pulling apart the 4L60:

Having it advanced so much could make it a dog off the line. The converter stall is way too tight as well. If anything, the auto trans should work better than a manual in terms of getting the turbo nice and loaded up.

As for ignition advance map, yeah, the OHC 8v heads don't work at all like the pushrod V8 stuff. Turbos also make the whole affair more complex. I'd have the timing map looked at. That turbo with that engine should net you at least 1 bar of boost by 3500 rpm in 3rd gear (1:1 ratio). The RSI cam isn't all that aggressive either.

Heres my timing table.

Sorry rpm and vaccuum would not copy. But this give a general idea what I was running for timing.

is it building any boost on the line footbraking it? for the record, the converter in my 16v car is this:

5000-5500 STALL 700TQ 082 STATOR 7 PUMP 4CYL
TURBO APP 3.54 GEAR 3000LBS

1 ANTIBALLOON ANTI BALLOON PLATE UPGRADE 0.00 0.00
1 ACCORDION SPR... 8 FOLD ACCORDION SPRING UPGRADE

now that 5-5500 rpm stall speed is more what it would do in a torqe-y v8, it will sorta stall to around 3000 or so in 1st with my foot on the brake. in order to get anything meaningful out of it (because my setup is an ABSOLUTE DOG below around 4500 lol) I have to set a limiter that does a bit of timing pull, and put the transmission in 3rd gear (manual valve body) to take all the gear torque multiplication out of it and let it lean on the converter harder. What normally happens in 1st is it'll start to push the car forward through the brakes long before it does anything substantial. As far as normal driving, the car drives fine out of boost, it gets a little "gooey" there in the 4000-5800 range when it spools up on the street, but that's about it.

you're gonna want a higher stall converter, I guess is what I'm saying. and don't be too afraid of really high numbers, unless you've got someone that makes converters for a very similar application, you're just better off going higher

I am assuming because of low compression. I do have a K cam in another car I could swap but I do have a IPD turbo cam on the way. On these engines its no big deal to pull the head and have it milled. Thanks for the advice everyone.

That, and your timeslip. The 60' is pretty poor. Additionally, when combined with a 3.73 gear, the MPH is well below the upper end of the rpm range I would expect with a K cam. Moving the power curve to the left should improve E.T. quite a bit.

Thanks

Im gonna try a V cam before winter. then during winter I will get a conv. for it. But I here ya all and appreciate the input. Hoping to get in the 12s with it. To answer linuxman, no boost with footbrake. Im holding it as hard as I can, I do have the poor mans manual setup on the 4l60e to use 3 gear as you have said but, trans guy said it would be hard on trans and not to do it. LOL. Im sure everything I do is hard on it. I checked on custom conv. they say 1000 and cant guarantee that it will stall correctly. The conv. I have is a 3500 stall a guy had in a 57 chev. with small block. He hated on the street said it stalled way to much. So I was hoping for the best and rolled the dice and lost.

you can try 2nd gear as well, it shouldn't be *that* hard on the transmission since nothing is moving and you can take a lot of the power out via launch control. Pretty sure the things I've damaged in my 400's lately have been more related to rpms than anything else... but the recent pictures of folks n00bing them apart on the dyno has reminded me that I need a scatter blanket for mine as well

Yeh I can try second gear. Ill give that a shot, Thanks.
