Hey, whats up guys! Back in November of 2014 I picked up a 1967 122, 2 door automatic. Ive wanted one of these for awhile and was stoked when i got it, for a lowwwwwww price too.
But you get what you pay for, for the most part. So while the engine and tranny are getting ready to be rebuilt, i decided to finally make a build thread.

Here's some pics:

Under the hood. Not very pretty:

Replaced motor mounts and driveshaft bearing barrier:

All the rust is just surface, being a California car. I will go over it with some POR or whatever:

<a href="http://s658.photobucket.com/user/wtarkington/media/004.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu302/wtarkington/004.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 004.jpg"/></a>

Another stroke of luck, my local Volvo mechanic was gunna throw these up on Craigslist literally the same day i first went to see him:

<a href="http://s658.photobucket.com/user/wtarkington/media/088.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu302/wtarkington/088.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 088.jpg"/></a>

Coker Classics 165/R/15 tires thrown on:
<a href="http://s658.photobucket.com/user/wtarkington/media/091.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu302/wtarkington/091.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 091.jpg"/></a>

What ive done/had done:

New motor mounts and driveshaft bearing/barrier
had front suspension redone, including new shocks
new tires
converted to electronic ignition, plus new coil, wires, spark plugs ect
new battery
all new, unused reupholstered seats
Cant think of anything else at the moment. The brakes are very good(according to my mech).

What I want to do/get done:

Im using rebuilt SU's, but i have a Weber 32/36 DGEV ready to install, but it doesnt work with my header. Wouldnt mind getting a new one anyway.
Finish suspension work, with at least a 2" drop.
complete reupholster the interior(headliner, carpet ect)
Eventually new wheels(same style tho, with the trim rings and tires)
Body work, but i like the patina of the car, so no paint for now.

In a couple of days me and my buddy are gunna pull out the engine and tranny. Im getting them rebuilt. I plan on using this as my daily driver, eventually.

Anyways, thanks Turbobricks!

Keep the SUs! You'll hate that weber. Sell it off on Ebay to a boat guy.

Nice looking start though. If you need any amazon stuff, let me know, my project has made me hoard some things.

The only upgrade from those S/U's would be side draught webers, like a pair of 45DCOE's, and that's big money. I made 120 to the wheels on a pair of s/u's on a b18 just like that.

Thanks! Yea ive heard dif things about the SU's vs. Webers. Some swear by the Weber, others the SU. Maybe i will sell the Weber after all.

Yea, i saw those on Vperformance(?). Wayyy outta my budget haha. Maybe i will keep the SU's. If i do that ill need to clean up the manifold ect. Thanks for the tip.

another tip: Dont buy anything from vperformance.com google search John Parker and iamtheonlyrealone, many victims of magical parts that never arrived

Haahah its funny you say that, because i read that same thing. Guys waiting for like thousands of dollars worth of parts and never hearing anyhing.

I have decided to sell the Weber. My SU's are rebuilt. I should have done more research before buying the Weber, but thats okay.

Good move. WeberS (DCOE) >> SU >> Weber (single downdraft thing on a crappy manifold)

SU's are perfectly fine on stock and mildly modified motors. They just get a little confused by really lumpy cams in a way that the DCOE's don't. The SU's can be tweaked with needles and springs to keep up for quite a few mods.

Speaking of cams, im having the engine rebuilt soon. Have any advice on that? Im not looking to go anywhere fast, just a stock rebuild.

I've always enjoyed the perk up of a stock engine when you replace the 'C' grind cam with a 'D' grind cam, as was used on the B20E. They put D-Jet fuel injection on the B20E to pass emissions tests without a bunch of other crap on the car, but it was a spendy system, so to provide some benefit to the buyers they increased the HP to go with it, and gave the credit to the injection system. Maybe part of it was due to the injection intake manifold, but mostly it was due to the D cam.

Very little tradeoff at low rpms, much improved power at higher revs. Maybe go with a 'C' cam if you are going to stick with that (personal opinion here, I've driven a couple of B20/BW35 cars) horrible automatic trans. The automatic won't let the engine rev anyhow.

Problem I see is that D and K cams are becoming NLA... or spendy hunks.

What I've done on multiple occasions was swap an M40 or M41 manual in.

I did sell the AW71 from my wagon (93 245 with 940T drivetrain, I swapped it to a manual) to a guy who was using it to replace the BW35 in a 122.

What kind of modification does that take? Id imagine youd have to cut the drive shaft, ect?
