I was having more and more problems with my 350k mile modded aw71 slipping in higher gears, so I finally got everything gathered up for a t5 swap and got it shoehorned in there.
Here's the parts list:
t5 from 2004 v6 mustang
ebay 9.5" 23 tooth input shaft
bellhousing, fork, t/o bearing came from a parts car
from tb members:
clutch cable
dogdish lh2.4 flywheel
saab 240mm pressure plate
clutchnet six puck unsprung disc
1 piece driveshaft, shortened unit from a mustang
hurst t5 shifter
I picked up the t5 for $200 locally, unknown mileage and condition, several months ago. I started gathering parts and took the lh2.4 flywheel to a local machine shop to have it milled flat and re-drilled for the pressure plate. After about a month of harassing the guy to do some work, got it done and got to work. I started the swap on a friday evening after work and had it all done and driving out of the shop by about noon the next day.
Pulling the old auto out
My mount solution involved drilling an 8" piece of angle iron to bolt to the t5, and bolt to the plate that bolted to the aw71. Not pretty by any means but it works decently. Time for a new mount already after a night at the track though..
Pic quality is not great, but I drilled a few extra holes in the plate to allow some heigh adjustment of the tailshaft. After getting it where I wanted it, had to trim the angle iron to keep it from bouncing againt the cross member while driving down the road.
Swapping pedal assembly out. I cut out the part where the brake switch mounted on this old assembly to use as a bracket to mount a switch on the clutch for the buchka board's ignition cut feature. Works like a charm.
That was about all I had in the way of pics, was on a time crunch to get stuff done and get it driving as I was starting back to a different job with a commute in a short time and needed the car on the road. But all in all, the car was down for 1 night for this swap, so I was happy. Using the launch control feature of the waste spark board I've been able to get the 60' down significantly from a factory stalled aw71, but I'm still learning to drive it so no killer 1/4 times with it yet. It really transformed the car though, hands down best mod yet. Next on the list is replacing my kjet/airtex pump setup with a dw301 in the tank, and upgrading to some 1000's so I can push all the boosts. I've also got a 90+ I'm working on, and I plan to swap the cosworth housing out for a 0.63 a/r housing I have sitting on the shelf. Hopefully should help with higher rpm power and overall powerband.
In other news, the BlueBrick ran like a champ when loaded down..
Because I purchased a new driveway for the ol' turds to leak on. Lucky for me it came with a house!
