How do I determine what u joints I have?

I have an 1982 244

2inch 50.8mm driveshaft for the first 2 sections of it and then something covers the shaft

Measuring the actual u joints while on the car (pre-ordering parts while still driving my car) seems difficult without an upgraded caliper from a standard one...

1.) https://www.skandix.de/en/spare-par...oint-propeller-shaft-universal-joint/1000113/

"For the Series 200 and 700 there are various drive shafts that are not exactly assigned, but are distinguished only by shaft types.
In the 200 series up to 1984 there are two types (1140 and 1310) They can be easily determined by the diameter of the front shaft.
Type 1140: 44.5 mm diameter
Type 1310: 50.8 mm diameter"

Cool, I get this note, I have Type 1310 because of my 50.8 mm driveshaft

2.) https://www.skandix.de/en/spare-par...oint-propeller-shaft-universal-joint/1000114/

"Volvo 200: For propeller shaft type 1140. Only the rear
joint at the differential!
In 2003, the diameter of the
Universal joint can be measured!"

Because of my 50.8mm 2 inch driveshaft, I guess this excludes me for this one because I have Type 1310. Also, it says only for the rear u joint.

Volvo 200: drive shaft For 1140, only front and
middle joint!

I don't have 1140, so this is not for me

The first link seems like one of my u joints, but this is all still very confusing for me. Do I just use 3 of the first type since my car is 1982 (pre-1985), 50.8mm driveshaft, and type 1310?

Volvo made 3 different u-joint configurations for 200 series driveshafts that have 3 u-joints.

1 with 3 small 1140 u-joints
1 with 3 large 1310 u-joints
1 with 1 large, 1 medium and 1 small u-joint

FYI, I have no idea what series of u-joint a "medium" is, but it's smaller than the large and larger than the small and we almost never see them.

Although measuring the driveshaft diameter is useful, I prefer to look at the size of the bolts for the flanges.

5/16"/8mm bolts=1140
9/16"/10mm bolts=1310

thanks I hope that I just have 9/16"/10mm bolts and thus, 3 1310 u-joints. Thank you for this information. Going to get under the car with a caliper again. 3rd option looks like a total mystery.

As Redwood Chair wrote, go to IPD's website and look at the u-joint overall dimensions. My 1983 242 measures 3.5 inches across each of the three u-joints. The u-joints are the 3-3/16" 1310. The flange bolts are 14mm head, and the nuts are 9/16"
