Default drive shaft flex disc install

hey i installed a new flex disc on my drive shaft but it looks like its tearing and theres threads sticking out. i also get a big vibration on fast take off recently. i was wondering whats the correct way to install this. the drive shaft has 3 holes to bolt up to the tranny and the out put of the tranny has the same holes. theres also the flex disc and the metal piece with three holes that goes into the driveshaft. i am wondering what connects to what? i think i have it now as 3 bolts go through the driveshaft, bushing and then the little metal peice and the tranny has 3 bolts going through it but just goes through the bushing and thats it. is that correct?

You can see how mine was installed in my 242 here, this is actually not the correct orientation:

http://www.jacqui-of-all-trades.com/...o/242ti/guibo/

Here's the thread I had here:

http://forums.turbobricks.com/showthread.php?t=176495

If you goto page 2 of the thread Nils makes a diagram of the correct way to put it. There are arrows on the guibo that tell you which way to put the bolts, say the arrow is this way ( -> ) , you would have the head of the bolt on the left with the threads and nut on the right side.

i checked mine. all the bolts are tight and it looks like my flex disc is installed just like urs and mine is also ripping in that same place. but mine has threads coming out everywhere. i think the vibration is cuz the tranny mount is a sponge.

in your thread a guy said

other than the guibo being mounted the wrong way which caused it to be torn apart, everything looks normal. gearbox flange should be pushing against the thick part, not pulling on the thick part.

i dont get that! is the other side different?

and how does this make a difference?

Buy a new guibo or take yours off and you will see the arrows on it. Like I said the bolts will point the direction the arrows go. The arrows are setup in a triangular fashion just like the end of the driveshaft and the coupler/flange off of your transmission. So there's only two options when installing the guibo, right or wrong. Here is an ultra lame paint diagram:

Pretend that that's side ways and the engine is on the left and driveshaft is on the right.

Here is some more detailed info, its for a BMW but the same exact thing:

If the transmission mount is bad, the guibo will not last long at all. My dad's transmission mount went out about 2 weeks ago, so I had to replace the mount as well as the guibo as it got torn up pretty good trying to act as a mount.

Ok I get how the bolts go if there's arrows but why would it matter? What's physically different about it?

Looks like you have the guide pin installed incorrectly and a set of bolts pointing the wrong way. I believe the guide pin is supposed to be bolted up to the tranny flange, not the driveshaft flange bolts.

I referred to VADIS and the Haynes manual. They both have diagrams.

95% positive. I just did this a couple of weeks ago. Do you have a manual for your car yet?

Here's from that BMW site:

The arrows on the guibo will point towards the flange you connect the bolt to. The 3 that connect to the tranny flange will have the nut on the engine side. The 3 that connect to the driveshaft flange will have the nut on the opposite side.

The 3 red marked holes are for the driveshaft flange, the nuts will be on the red marked side.

Notice how the orientation and 'raised up' portions of the guibo is the same in the bmw picture and my picture. Be sure to change your tranny mount unless you know for sure its newish.

Is it just me, or are your arrows on the guibo pointing the wrong way?
Edit: nevermind looking at the wrong arrows.

Will having this orientated wrong cause this vibration? If so, I might have mine flipped to..

it's already pressed into the driveshaft for manual trannys.

OK well my guibo came off my driveshaft on the road and now i KNOW why you HAVE to install it the right way. first of all if your tranny mount is gushy it will cause the guibo to fail with torque. the first time mine failed it made the driveshaft completely fall off but this time BECAUSE i installed it right the bushing fell off BUT the driveshaft stayed connected to the tranny!!! saving all those parts!! so make sure you install it exactly like it says. temporarily i am using a nissan 240 guibo until i order a bunch of parts from fcp!

I always purchase stuff from FCP but I highly suggest NOT to buy the "URO" branded guibo from them:

http://www.fcpgroton.com/product-exe...ategory_id/103

Instead get a Febi guibo from eEuroparts or whichever else site you can find it at:
