    Whine... AW70?

Thanks, Once my lift becomes available I will try the converter trick and maybe drop the pan and check. After close to 400 000 miles maybe it's just time for a rebuild :-/ That's three engine rebuilds and three transmission rebuilds on the list for this year, and I've never done either before...

    Whine... AW70?

Good afternoon, I have an intermittent whine, mostly in idle but it is likely I just can't hear it if not. It sounds like it is from the back of the engine, but if I crouch it also sounds like it's from under the car. Doesn't better if it is in drive or neutral. Can the transmission input...

Dead cylinder for the first mile

Car drives brilliantly now, but not only that, fuel economy (probably mostly new injectors followed by valve-grinding and timing issues) has improved about 20% compared to the last few years. Reached 300 miles before it even went into the red!

Dead cylinder for the first mile

I think the blocked flame-trap caused an un-told number of problems. Oil absolutely everywhere, Outside of engine and transmission, inside inlet manifold, throttle body, etc, maybe just years of oil and air pressure waves pushed a little bit of oil down the line, but I agree, it's a bit...

Dead cylinder for the first mile

Good afternoon, I have been able to re-create the problem, it was caused by a break in HT lead #1 in my old set. I have been mulling over what went wrong through all this and maybe it is just food for thought. When cylinder #1 died, I made the obvious mistake of assuming it was dead for the...

Dead cylinder for the first mile

Good morning, The injectors were not the problem, spark was. Still not entirely clear in my head how, the problems I found in the distributor should not have affected the strength of the spark, only the advancement. Regards, Henrik Morsing

Dead cylinder for the first mile

Well, it's... fixed? Go figure? :e-shrug: I sent a mail to a company who tests distributors for free explaining my problem. He replied back saying that could not possibly be caused by the distributor and that I most likely had a cracked valve. His response annoyed me so much I thought...

Dead cylinder for the first mile

Didn't fix it so £300 down the drain... now looking at scrapping / parting out car I spent £16 000 on a bodywork restoration only six months ago. It was a bit better, but still just un-burnt fuel exiting the cylinder at idle and under load. Regards, Henrik Morsing

Dead cylinder for the first mile

Nor do I but it's all I've got. If this doesn't fix it I'm back at looking to scrap the car. Regards, Henrik Morsing

Dead cylinder for the first mile

Good afternoon, I finally managed to setup a rig for fitting the injectors into some jars on a white plank of wood to be able to see the spray better. I managed to measure the opening pressure at a bit below 3 bar (40-44 psi) which I think is a bit low. It was still incredibly difficult to see...

    2014 V70 D4204T5 inlet tube nipple

I'm trying to glue it back on now. It's very weird. New pipe is £280 so would rather avoid that. Regards, Henrik Morsing

    Banjo bolt washer leaking

Cool, with give that a go. How much is lightly? Copper has a melting point of 1085C. Regards, Henrik Morsing

    Banjo bolt washer leaking

'morning, When I fit one of the WUR banjo bolts I always have to tighten it to the hilt to stop a slight leak from the top washer. I tried sanding the washers and scraping the bolt head surface (also tried sanding it) but it doesn't help. Is this more likely to be a washer or bolt problem...

Dead cylinder for the first mile

Made a rig to pressurise the coolant system yesterday but when I looked at the expansion cap valves it suddenly struck me that they might not be up to spec anymore. I pulled one of them and stretched the spring, so I definitely need a new one now, but it could explain the random loss of coolant...

    2014 V70 D4204T5 swirl actuator testing

'morning, Does anyone know if there is an electrical way of testing the swirl flap actuator? And also the EGR flap actuator? Regards, Henrik Morsing

    2014 V70 D4204T5 inlet tube nipple

'morning and Merry Christmas! Does anyone know how this nipple: Fits onto the inlet tube here: It wasn't really attached when I removed the hose. The lower bracket is snapped but it looks like there is a felt washer between the nipple base and tube. Looks really odd. Do I need to buy a...

Dead cylinder for the first mile

No, it is coming from the bottom of the AFM, presumably via the PCV hose (but why?). P.S. Not that I think this would cause a dead cylinder. Regards, Henrik Morsing

Dead cylinder for the first mile

Hi Dave, I had the gasket off and inspected it when the head was off. Also, I have done a smoke leak test and there are no leaks anywhere. I have also tried the carb cleaner trick and it made no difference. Regards, Henrik Morsing

Dead cylinder for the first mile

Good evening, Slowly starting to pick this up again after a sorting out a backlog of real life stuff. Changed the fuel filter and pulled the distributor out to test spark manually, see video below. Ignore the missing sparks, the camera isn't quick enough to pick them up half the time, just...
