13c leaking from wastegate external lever. Is this repairable? or time for big ol turbo stage 2 chip time?

After a high NO reading at my recent smog inspection I decided to do a seafoam treatment. Upon hotsoak startup I saw smoke at the turbo, which prompted this video.

Turbo still spools. I assume the leak was always there and I only noticed after the white poof cloud. It is probably the reason for the high nox.

Can I seal this leak without turbo removal? or is this the end of the little boosty boy?
can I just weld it shut to pass smog?

I just want a quick fix to pass emissions and get registration card.
Then deal with swapping out a better turbo later if possible.


I also assume my o2 sensor is toast.
plugs are a normal color so I'm not really leaning out.

There is no quick fix. The turbine shaft seal is starting to leak. When it gets real bad your car will look like a sky writing aircraft in action. You are in the early stages of bearing/seal failure.

my exhaust/turbo flange is also leaking with a soap test. This thing is done. I need a new jurbo now

Kinugawa sells turbos that are pretty much a direct replacement, if 700 turbos are your cup of tea. I liked mine though, clean and relatively the same as stock

I ordered stage1 redblock powered chips. 10-12psi .everything else stock.

Looks like bigger turbos are the same price.
I don't want to really lose any lag. 15 or 16g upgrade?

I think you can get nice used 13c for about $200. Better intercooler is the best upgrade even with stock turbo.

I dont think its as good as an npr, but better than the older intercoolers. So you are in a middle ground, but its not as easy to upgrade.

Yeah you can get one that stock size, I got one that was barely bigger and it seemed to perform just like a stock 13c. Or just get a used 13c and a rebuild kit for much cheaper...
