1980 242 GT T5 swap. An unreasonable pursuit.

That color is going to look great on the car. (y)
At least in the video, I thought I knew the Corvette color...and I wasn't expecting it to look so close to the color of my 240 wagon (same color as his old 240 wagon). I'm sure there's a HUGE difference when looking at it in-person...

Funny you mention it looking like your wagons colour, when I was watching the video I thought it easily looked like it could have been a factory blue. Reminded me of an old 244 I had.

I like the colour choice

It's no coincidence that it looks similar to my old 245--after narrowing down from other options, I decided to find a color similar to that car, but slightly more saturated.

Another photo of that car:

Agree...I love the color. I cant wait to see it out in the sun!

This is the color I was expecting...

Haha I would expect the same if you said 'corvette blue'

Looking back at that wagon actually makes me think about spraying an extra front lip in body color. I hadn't thought about that until just now. Hmmm
Yes! My folks recently did that to one of their 601 Red wagons. I was, and continue to be shocked at how something so small, makes such a huge difference in the overall look of the car! I just saw it this weekend, and I want to do the same thing to mine...

Part two of the paint project, also featuring the volatility of spring weather in Wisconsin:

Now that the car is painted, I have a mountain of work to do on reassembling, but I'm going to focus on the engine first I think. I'm also putting A/C in the car. Maybe a different transmission? There's some scope creep here for sure. Progress will be slow, but hopefully consistent. I have no deadlines for this car; I just want to do it right.

I might have missed it while skipping around in the video a little....curious why you didn't pull the glass out. Rear window takes 15 minutes to pop out and the rust repair on the windshield could just been handled and done. Not knocking you as a color change it a big project.

Great work buddy! The color is really great and suits the body shape!

You really inspire me to continur on my 242 travels and discovery and i am really grateful for that!

Be well!

That is stellar man. Looks amazing, loved the video's. A++++ all around.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed them!

Fair question! I decided not to because of the time crunch to take advantage of this opportunity (this paint job was more or less no-cost to me in exchange for YouTube exposure). I’ve not pulled a windshield on these cars before so I was a little wary of creating more problems by trying to do it while rushing to get everything done. If I had more time, or a different situation where I wasn’t driving back and forth as far as I was, doing it in winter when I didn’t want the interior filling with snow, etc… I would have ideally pulled them.

That said, I also don’t regret leaving them in based on how it turned out—more so just something the internet has conditioned me to feel bad about not having done.

Thanks! One of my hopes for the videos is that they might give that little spurt of motivation to keep working on long projects

Nice work duder! As soon as I saw the color my first thought was "oh, just like his wagon" lol!!

Man, you put in a ton of work but that seems like a good trade, shoot some youtube/marketing content for a free paint job! Granted you had to work your ass off on prep and it was, what, 5+hrs away? Looks like the juice was well worth the squeeze!!

Your effort in all the prep and paint work is rewarded with the great color and finish. Well done. And your video work and commentary are excellent!

It was simultaneously a ton of work to strip and bodywork it but also very well worth it! The other guy is also quite pleased with how it worked out, so we both got what we were looking for. There’s a good chance this won’t be the last project we collaborate on.

Thank you! Each time I walk out to the garage now I just stare at it and forget why I walked out there.

Your videos have been a real inspiration to get out in the garage and work on my own junk.

Also, that app looks awsome. Way better than my rolling notes in a blank document.

That's awesome to hear. I saw your sign-up come through; I should be in touch this week with info on next steps. Thanks!

If anyone is wondering what app we're referring to, it's a project car tracking tool called Assembly that a partner and I are building. You can see more here: https://app.driverevivetinker.com/
