1982 244 GL High MPG - daughter's first car

I think they had 3.73s also, will look it up but also @pinguin what’s the diff ratio on that 242 you got?

Something doesn’t add up in my equation, I seem to recall that the 242 Speedo was reading fine

This is good help. I know what to check
I dunno, it's parked in a friend's garage in Minneapolis.

@Jack I followed the same procedure re: control valve and also found mine was catching in places as well. After polishing with fine steel wool and thoroughly spraying with carb cleaner it is working well. Still a slight hesitation with revs dropping but much improved also did terminal 11 mod and running 15psi @ 11.6 afr. Thanks for being the guinea pig!

very good

I checked base fuel pressure. This shows it was set too high, should be nothing coming out. I adjusted it

Took it for a test drive and still had some high/sticking idle issues, swapped over to a different IAC and it's way better now. Not sure if original was intermittently bad or my base idle is off but I will check it all again (hopefully) tomorrow

I need to really work on the paint, Maguire wax is streaking, indicating (I think) bunch of dead paint..

been a while because I have been struggling to get it to run right ... but after using the "right" tool I think it's finally ready for smog

I buffed the paint few weeks ago and it's looking much better. I need to take some photos of it.

Today I replaced the roofline trim. You use the old bottle opener keychain to remove these. I fixed the dome light, the door switches were corroded. Adjusted hood and door hinges.

There's only 1 black M46 speedo gear. It works for both 3.91 and 3.31 rear end gears. The difference is the metal gear in the overdrive. For 3.31 the metal gear has 7 teeth and for 3.91 it has 6 teeth. Look at the housing near the output flange. There should be a 6 or 7 stamped into the housing to indicate which gear was installed.

Turns out it's a 7

Thankfully I got one with a 6

Congrats! Quite a saga
Thank you! Most stressful part was not having a way to test it prior to smog

I don't know Ja boi? RE license plate

Love the progress and looks incredible, hope it serves her well!!
Daughter says "I dont know Jack"

She loves the car, other week she drove to Sacramento and back in one evening (I was there) and only stalled it once. Still few bugs to work out, see above but it's so close to being done

Nice post office you've got there.

built in the 30s, it's historic https://livingnewdeal.org/sites/post-office-oroville-ca/ but the info in that links sucks
