I often think about making the OD all red too like volvo did for their display on a b20e

I ended up using rubber gaskets for overdrive top two studs from Ace hardware because I didnt have the right copper/plastic ones

in other news I found out that water and baking soda work extremely well on oil build up. .... Somehow 1/4 gal of acid fell off my shelf

Speedo is now working correctly
Overdrive is now working - I didn't have the power hooked up at the fuse panel:???:

Today I started to install @DavidSamuels fuse panel block - I'm impressed, he soldered all the connection in the back and I can see why it's $200. I will be buying it for the other cars soon. My one grief is that it didnt come with enough 7.5a fuses but they're like $5 for a pack of 50 on amazon

Watch out for cheap fuses - some are too thin and don't grip snugly.

Have you taught your daughter how to use the parking brake when needing to take off on a hill? I followed someone in a new rabbit yesterday and they obviously were new to driving a manual. Slow to get going, and lurching with every shift. I remember that painful phase from many many years ago.

his fuse holders are TIGHT and from the looks of it I got the same ones that came with the kit but I will for sure monitor this

We're working on hills still. She's taking her driving test in two days!
It's so painful when you're just starting to drive stick. One time she couldn't get my 850 to start driving at a four way stop. There were like 5-6 cars behind us, first car that went around was a truck full of men and they all yelled at her "it's ok, you;ll get it, keep trying!" Next car was a car with 4 women over 60, "what you're doing is highly illegal"
"yeah ok lady" I yelled
then we switched and I showed her it's not the car it was her (my 850 is not easy to drive)

She drives stick really well, downshifts, pre selects gears etc. It's really nice to see how quickly she catches on

finished installing the fuse panel

installed a hybrid switch I made for antenna up/down. The originals were momentary and I made it a full on/off switching to a rear defrost base.

antenna works so well that I even get Russian stations

Now I need to figure out the door buzzard and it sound like the ac compressor pulley got loud (FUCK)

So my daughter doesn't care about engine gauges and she really wanted an ambient temp gauge .. Ok sure lets see what I can find
"unable" to locate some on TB in either Communism or Freedom, I bought one on ebay from the UK today. As I am typing out a text to her I REALIZE THAT I HAVE ONE:wtf:

One I ordered

the one I got YEARS ago cheap because it's missing bezel and lens

I was eager to participate until I saw the areas you had to be living in. Strange.

I've taught manual to people in 240's and an 850 turbo, the 850 drivers didn't seem to have a harder time :e-shrug: but I switched back to 240's because I can do an m46 clutch in like 3h taking my time and it just made me feel better/less worried about them roasting it, even though I've never had a problem. Teaching in my 4.0v6 ranger is too easy, you really don't need to give it any throttle and there's enough torque hardly anyone stalls. I'm wondering if it's modern enough to have some kinda inline valve to prevent dumping it, like JK jeep manuals have.I also taught one student in their own kia soul. The worst student I ever had (she eventually gave up) had a newer chevy aveo

Wow - I wish I had used that replacement fuse panel!
I used the Skandix one and it is really awkward, like it needs some kinda trim plate added.

areas where they were looking for probably have to do with production costs etc

She drove the 850 fine but the 240 is cake to drive. My 850 is easy for someone who's been driving manual for a little but not to learn on, I have done quite a bit to it. She started off on 850 for the first few weeks until I got the smog sorted with this car. I didnt want to teach her more on it for the same reason as you mention; clutch job on a 240 is couple of hours.

earlier in the thread I posted a picture of her driving the 122 when she was 12, that car is the easiest to teach and to replace the clutch on.

that was his first version

Ordered both new fuel pumps this weekend, today I coated the valve cover in texture black. I need to pick up some stainless acorn nuts tomorrow

I gotta say I am a little astounded to see any part on that car that has not been replaced or powder coated. Like the fuel pump... :-P

Edit to add emoji in case this was interpreted as criticism

Oh no, why isn't the brake booster and master cylinder power coated??? Inquiring minds want to know. :-P

On the other hand, seeing an unpainted or uncoated part that's not rusty is impressive in its own way. Sorta like the phrase, "It's only original once."

If I could coat the booster I would. Funny I was thinking that one day I'll coat the master (I just coated the master for my 122 last week)

ehh things don't really rust in valley. I only care about full provenance

last two days
daughter passed her driving test yesterday! Her doc interview went really well and pictures/bio/story got passed to the director. :x:
31 years in USA for me too, I told her that my American dream has been fulfilled
installed stainless acorn nuts. I went to Home Chepo to see how much they would be (10 needed) 4.80 each! Bought 25 from amazon for $7 after taxes.

IPD order came in early and @hiperfauto the pump is correct and from BOSCH!
got that installed tonight. Daughter wants to take the car this weekend while I'm away. I also ordered the tank pump but have not replaced that yet. Thanks to @2manyturbos for sending me the line between pump and accumulator

Wow, Pick-n-Pull is the very last place on the planet I'd expect to find a good rubber gasket on a 30-40-yo car. Nice score!
Idk why the original one was so bad, I dont remember them going bad. The rubber gasket sits out of the sun.. Im more lucky that there was a 240 in the yard!

the other day @rearwheelpeel sent me a missing replacement lens/bezel/insert for the temp gauge. I ordered a replacement sensor as found in this thread. Its a reboxed VDO for 1/2 the price ($22 now). Calibrated and put together now. I need to make a little harness for it and install it next

today
I dropped the old tank and replaced the pusher pump with Ipd "upgrade"... I also installed a powdercoated tank/filler neck/clamp and "new" hardware. Old tank had TWO prefilters in it and 3rd was on the sending unit
