1982 244 GL High MPG - daughter's first car

been a while since I updated this

Shes been loving her car and its been pretty reliable* We went to a couple of shows and volvo meet ups together since.
made some viral IG videos too

back in feb she was complaining that the car's steering feels hard sometimes but video/calls found nothing weird. On her drive to visit home she said she heard a bang, dash lights flickered and lost all PS but she just kept driving

Oh, will this take a long time to fix? I have to be home by 1pm tomorrow and there are road closures tonight!

I found two broken off studs at the accessory bracket, I guess that one of the bolts nuts was loose and it kept getting worse and worse until it gave up

removed the old ac pump and installed ps only bracket - kicker is I couldn't find the arms for it and had to drive to my friends house (hour trip) to pull them off his car while it was hailing

turns out the driver rear caliper was leaking - I replaced the passenger side a few months prior
Thankfully I had one rebuild on the shelf.

so working from about 11am to 11pm I got it all done, next moring car died and wouldnt start. I cleaned the ignition wiring and she left. Next day was still having issues - 200 miles away. I made her change plugs, cap and rotor over facetime. I think the intake being sucked into the engine coated the plugs... no issues since

I replaced the ignition wire connectors - sometimes the car wont start until you move these around - with modern ones

installed a hitch I got from @cosbySweater, I powdercoated it. It's a little bent to the driver side but this is only so she can have a bike rack. To startigthen it I would have to cut it, install it straight and weld it back up.

forgot to add, I also replaced ODO gear from Barton - it was 14 tooth and I fixed the down pipe that fell off/came loose twice because some moron didnt use tapered nuts the first time

Welp this happened yesterday.
The red Tesla in the background (I think) was making a left turn immediately after a blind turn and didn't indicate. She said she slammed on her brakes (long skidmarks on the road) but still slammed into it... When I saw the road I understood how that happened and it could have happened to me. She was so sad over her car .... no one got hurt, nothing was leaking from car but hood didnt latch

This was near Point Rayes coming back from a car show ... or about 100 miles from me at the time. She insisted she didnt want to drive the car back and that I should go and pick her up...

I can definitely understand not wanting to drive after a wreck. After both collisions I've been in I've had that weird feeling in the pit of my stomach when thinking of driving.
 
Bummer news, glad the kiddo is okay.
Great work repairing the car though, I'm amazed you salvaged the hood! Cool stuff.
 
I'm amazed that the fenders look fine, and the bumper is mostly OK, other than some distorted rubber. They sure don't build 'em like this anymore. What did the other car look like?

When you say "turns out it's the same color and even got repainted with the same shitty wrong color", what do you mean?

My '85 GLT was originally 215-2 blue, but was repainted early in life to a slightly brighter blue. I talked to the 2nd? owner and they didn't know of any major accidents nor any reason why the whole car would have been repainted by the original owner. I'm curious if the wrong color mixture was published somewhere and a body shop ended up repainting the whole car after a minor repair.

I need to ask her for pics of the tesla, I havent seen it. Her front end must have dove quite a bit for it to "entirely" miss the bumper

the front end came off a repainted 81 264, I thought it would be close but it was spot on in color. Her car got repainted like 12-15? years ago at one of the local "maco" places for 1k, I have the receipt in a folder in her trunk. I will inquire, according to the guy that painted it (he's local) it was his first car and he wanted it to look nice again
