If your old AC compressor grenades internally, be certain to flush your condenser! If metal gets in there, bits will find their way into your orifice tube (concealed in the 2 pc. hardline along the pass. side front frame rail). Make certain to flush completely all debris from the high side small line leaving your compressor to the hardline housing the orifice tube. Advance Auto sells the specific flush for these systems.

Also PRO TIP..... if you haven't already bought your OT, then purchase the variable version. We put one in my son's 92 940 and it cools better than any other RWD brick we've converted.

Nice work!

Thanks man, appreciate the advice, have the flush kit from doing one of the other cars here, all new hoses going into it so will probably flush out the system on the old ones with them disconnected from the new parts.

Awesome, I got the GPD kit which comes with a standard orifice tube. Did y'all use the four seasons or the AC delco variable unit?

Was going to pickup the severe climate one for Texas and will make sure it's variable!

Thanks man !

Got the head back after being rebuilt by a friend. The two turbo heads I had were trash, so used this clean 530 head and transferred over the cam, valves etc from the turbo heads.

Here's a quick and cheap way to retain your cam plug with a DIY plate

Big flat washer, and cut to length punched zinc steel 8 holes is the magic number.
And two M8 1.0 bolts.

Home depot has everything:

Everbilt
1-3/8 in. x 36 in. Zinc Steel Punched Flat Bar with 1/16 in. Thick

For 11.47, can make 4 of the plates

The 2 pack of bolts is 2.75

Works out about 6 bucks a pop with tax, nice if you've got multiple redblocks with a block mount distributor.20240519_110833.jpg20240519_111008.jpg20240519_112440.jpg

Head in and torqued, frickin heat is mega at the minute so going out to work in short bursts!

Got started on the a/c system today, new softlines, from new compressor, new accumulator, high temp orifice tube and fresh seals all around. 940 condenser so switching to the 949 style hose ends too.20240528_170145.jpg20240528_171433.jpg20240528_194056.jpg20240528_195542.jpg20240528_201428.jpg20240528_202329.jpg

I cleaned out the internal bits with the AC cleaning acetone I think it is.

Hopefully get the hoses fitted later on in the week.

New a/c pipes fitting today

Not sure if I got the routing 100% but they're all connected where they're supposed to be, with fresh seals.

She's leaning a bit in rear passenger side, might need to look at springs & shocks eventually! 20240602_112008.jpg20240602_120649.jpg20240602_131912.jpg

The last box of bits, some rotors & brakelines for front, new muffler (probably need middle box too and an AC belt oh and the cover mounts for the cargo area.

She's getting close now, have a 2k idle to figure out and she's leaking trans fluid from the drain bolt, that'll be a pain replacement! Eugh

Fabbed up some roof rack brackets, a bit more robust and at aboutb35 bucks total Vs that per corner came out okay. It's solid, albeit could do with some paint.20240610_170740.jpg20240610_171646.jpg20240610_184043.jpg

Needing another project like a hole in the head, just bought this one today!

Managed to get the stick driver door open, got a fresh set of keys cut and with some Wd40 and joggling it popped open. Liberal amounts of white lithium grease later it's opening and closing perfectly.

It was then I noticed that the top of the door frame was detached from the bottom piece.

Looks like someone was here before too. I ground it back and tried welding it a bit. It's a bit stronger now but I think I'll overlay a piece to make it stronger.

And yes I'm terrible at welding !

Cleaning the car out to get the parts catalogued and sell off what I won't need to offset the price. I paid my mate what it had cost him to date for car and the parts with this planned to get it back to a price I'm comfortable with i.e. sub 1k or thereabouts.

First the interior20240612_185026.jpg20240612_203344.jpg20240612_203342.jpg20240612_203347.jpg

Pretty serviceable, drivers seat needs covers and need some arm rests but apart from the regular cracked dash we're relatively good here. No rodent action which is a joy!
The trunk had all the nice bits, a nice car cover, the new fuel system , sender pumps etc etc

Not dealing with kjet again, the Weber will stay for now.

A half decent fender to replace the crunchy drivers side.
