Well, atleast you have a lift and a garage

Great stuff! Keep it going! This is true I'm attempting to downsize my stockpile/ fleet quite considerably so I can start work on my turbo 242, I'm very ADHD so easily distracted with new projects, but doing the maths on it realise I'm selling my time very cheap
Woah, your rack is leaking too? Let me know what you wind up doing about that. Looks great though!Anyways back to usual business, time for the 740's inspection shakedown, everything works, everything leaks, standard Volvo redblock experience lol.
She's running well, still have to:
Put on the rear overload springs,
Ipd sways
Boost gauge
Do something about leaking rack!
She's going through all the gears, have boost waaay low until I get a gauge on it but it's driving grand for the most part View attachment 28926View attachment 28927View attachment 28928View attachment 28929
I'll probably order a repro and fit it eventually, it's not so bad that it's even annoying at this stage thankfullyWoah, your rack is leaking too? Let me know what you wind up doing about that. Looks great though!
Lol yes I've recently started offloading wheels mind !Just skimmed through this whole thread. If I learned anything, it's that you take great care of your cars, and you have no self control (especially when it comes to wheels)
Wow never seen a Volvo lifter do that. Why is there a burned spot in the middle or what is that exactly? Just from the cam wearing on it?

That's the lifter without the shim on it , the little recess is filled with oil and looks burnt as a result.
Thought I'd found all the damage, sheared the pin on the camshaft gear too.
Still going with the obstructed timing belt theory, sudden stop threw a shim into the head ? It's bloody weird but I guess it's possible.
We'll see if it sounds like a bag of nails on startup.
