1984 242t/745t Texas

Well the ls 245 is gone now, off to San Antonio and in better hands to see it through

Just in time too, threw the 745 back together after fixing the lifter and she's running on three cylinders, time to tear down the head again I guess and see how much is to be done.

The new squeeze is also needing a bit of welding on floorpan, seatbelts, a headliner, vacuum modulator and power steering hooked up, a lot 😂
But she looks cool!

And finally getting to the 242 turbo, half b230ft swapped

Whipped off the head on 745t to see what the culprit was. Seem to have a valve sticking open on cylinder 1 .

It kissed the piston but no other discernable damage thankfully!

Piston is intact and is happy moving up and down in the bore.

Thoughts and prayers that a new valve sorts things out! 20241017_143842.jpg20241017_144458.jpg20241017_144505.jpg

Took a while to get to it, between selling the ls and half my parts hoarde I now have money to finish the projects and hopefully a bit more time.

Ended up being a shredded belt, mud daubers had built a nest in space of 2 days I'd left the top timing cover off.

Started up, shredded three teeth off the timing belt and I bent a valve, thankfully piston was okay.

Quick trip to buddy that built the head and a reshim, clean and it's back together!

Looking forward to driving her a bit now. Need to bleed some brakes, fit those sway bars and rear springs and new exhaust but she's driving around a bit at least.20241109_130742.jpg20241109_130758.jpg

Bloody weirdness continues

Ran the car, perfect, sounds good etc etc, left it sit 3 days, came back it won't start easy. When it does it cuts out after 3-4 seconds.

I checked timing, replaced the tensioner out of caution. No change.

Unplugged the maf and it'll run but at 2500-3000 rpm. Step on gas it falls on its face.

Going to take the intake system apart, clean my idle air intake valve and see what's going on.

The car doesn't want to be on the road 😂

Yeah that's totally bizarre; can't wait to find out what it was that was doing that.

Looking good though. Enjoy the weather while it lasts!

Lol twas me being a dumbass.

I took off the intake pipes to throttle and lo and behold the pipe from the idle air control valve had popped off.

Put it all back together and she's running like a top.

Next on the list is a refreshed steering rack, leaks like a sieve.

Of course the second I brought her out on the road she shed the signal cover 😂

Bit of a reshuffle for the lift access today, need to replace & reseal the transmission pan, brakes up front, some suspension and a steering rack on the 740.

Nice garage lift/ramp! I've got the same one...... great for low headroom/basement garages (like mine). The difference it makes when you work under the car on a creeper is a game changer. Good luck with the rack.... the bolts/screws/nuts that hold the rack to the back of the crossmember can be difficult to get loose. Use some surgical heat if you have to on those nuts......

Duly noted man will have the torch at hand so.

I was going to throw the car on jacks but knowing myself the access with the lift just gives so much more space and security?

Maybe I'm imaging it but feels better when under there, getting picky as I get older I guess, there were times when I'd dig a hole to slide under a car 😂

Got tired of looking at the tired front end, sunset about sprucing her up a bit. Sanded the headlights and cleared, painted the slam panel and headlight surrounds and dyed the plastics. Looking pretty fresh.

Sure I probably could have tackled the rack but sun was out and pretty cars are easier to work on.

I did find a number of my transmission pan bolts were loose so torqued them up, hopefully it seals now!

Good start to the day, got the rack in, lots of cleaning and about an hour searching for that tiny retaining pin on steering shaft.

Figured out where that exhaust leak is and repaired my under engine pan with zip ties and plastic welding.

The pan was pretty gnarly but I figured it still had a few more rock hits in it 😂 Screenshot_20241130_220935_Gallery.jpg

The little clip that hid for a while !

And even the dog wants me to get back to the 242.
