Another one???

Absolutely. Local friend sends me a craigslist ad out of the blue (I am never on craigslist). Low and behold a manual 740 turbo only 25 minutes from home for only $1250. I'd be dumb to pass this up, right?

After some fighting with the pretty greedy seller I ended up paying $1500 for the car and an additional $200 for a tow back to my shop.

Battery was totally shot, so bad the car would hiccup while on the test drive and of course not restart when it would die due to the bad IAC. Brake pedal was suuuuper soft. Really had to pump the brakes to get anything, but the hydro clutch felt great!

Let the work begin....

After getting the car off the truck I tossed in a half decent battery and unplugged the IAC. Runs like a top! Was quite surprised by that. Tags on the back expired in 2015 and it had hardly been driven since due to the brake issue.

The seller did have new tires installed earlier this year I guess in hopes of getting it back on the road. Bonus

Replaced the dated Alpine CD player with a Continental unit that a friend donated

New brake master courtesy of RockAuto. Still in the process of replacing the brake hoses. Quite a few stuck fittings.
Surprising for a southern car.

Old bumper was in rough shape with a gash in the side and big holes from accessory fog lights it must have worn in it's younger days. Had to work with what I could find and grabbed a crummy bumper from a junkyard car locally. Will scuff it up and throw some SEM bumper coater at the front and rear very soon. Sometimes things must get worse before they can get bettter

Much more to come for this car. I intend to hold onto it and it be my practical bike hauler and road trip brick. Lots of deferred maintenance to catch up on. (current timing belt is from 2001 and looks as if it will snap at any second).

Plan to do some subtle mods like lowering springs, OBX exhaust I have sitting around (new in box), Bils, IPD suspension goodness, boost controller, and IPD cam.

That’s awesome! What a find. It sounds like you’ve got a fun project ahead. The hydro clutch is a good sign. Keep us updated on the restoration progress!

Another 90 745! Glad to see it, surprised they put the M46 into these vehicles this late. Will keep an eye on this thread......

How many miles on this beast?

OBX Catback going in. Got this back in february for a whopping $180 from Walmart of all places (online of course)
They used to run about $500 but I assume OBX wanted to purge old stock and listed them for next to nothing to get rid of them
Overall fit was good, only issue was missing hardware for the downpipe flange and missing one clamp.
Sounds good, but if you want loud this is not the exhaust for you

That's just a pup! Surprised it has the Garrett, I thought they were 100% Mitsu by the late 80's.

Good call on the roof recycle.... my local Schnitzer paid me pretty well for the stainless.

BTW, very clean pair of headlights just listed on eBay, I think $140 for the pair.... they are in Portlandia.

I'm interested in that OBX exhaust, especially at that ridiculous price. Was it turbo specific? I think the 7/9 turbo downpipe is 63mm OD, and I suspect the NA header in 745 is smaller.

Long time no update. I'm very bad about documenting, so now I get to do a dump of all the things I did since july.

"New" right fender installed and did a paint correction over a weekend. Turned out quite well for 34 year old paint.

Also installed new headlights and turn signals

Our cars were looking very similar prior to the Polaris install (although mine is a '94). Did your OBX muffler have the stock location hangers or did you add those? Mine only came with hangers on the tailpipe before the 1-2 split and I had to kludge an old stock hanger to get it to actually reach the stock hangers.

So funny enough I have installed that OBX exhaust setup on two different cars. I installed it on a friend's 94 940 and the rear muffler hanger did NOT line up. We ended up cutting the hangers off and using the original muffler strap with hangers.

On this car though they lined up perfectly. I assume volvo changed the location between 90 and 94
