1991 240 EZK 116 Power Stage failure? 1991 OEM factory coil short. Replacement coil minimum input resistance?

I'm in Jerome, ID. I have an AutoZone and an O'Reilly's across the street. 1991 240 is dead at a truck stop.
No spark. CPS is a BougiCord replacement and solid.
The garbage Commercial Electric DMM is made in Chinese junk and shite garbage using two AAA batteries. All at Lowe's or Home Despot were this shite brand and all use two AAA batteries. No Klein or Fluke. Cannot get accurate Ohms on the failed or generic replacement coil. So I cannot diagnose properly.
The generic brand of ignition coils, one from AutoZone the other from Oreilly's may have to low a resistance input for the power stage output. So the spare EZK116 Power Stage Bosch 0227100124 allowed 12 V at the coil inputs in KPII. Cranked and ran for a few minutes and failed without restart and no 12V at the could inputs at KP II (dash lights on).
I at least need a Power Stage replacement (or two) and a coild with minimum proper resistance at the + and - inputs. I have two sets of ECMs for ignition (EGR version and ending in 169 no STUPID EGR) and fuel control (0280000556 EGR and 0280000933 box). OBD for both were / are 1-1-1 (Yes, I will get a 0280000951). EGR is stupid like the green energy revolution and Gore's BS inconvenient truth when his family makes bazillions on hydrocarbons.
The power stage module knockoff and occasionally Bosch are on iPd, FCP, and versions at O'CrapReilly's and AutoCrapZone.
I have to be in wacky, homeless tent city, never afford a home, western-WA-state for a job winterview, yet again.
I have heat sink compound and two power stage or ignitor assembies with factory heat sink. I tested these and treated them with new heat sink compound, the factory install in kittsgreyvolvo and also the spares yet left several spares in storage. Stewpid me. Also, have spare factory coils. Yet in storage.
Volvo's documentation is shite and so no pin out load in info here in Mekartips with the Volvo Mitchell Service SLD PDFs, Oz Volvo, Dave Barton, or anywhere.
Jerome, ID stinks of shite from the animal slaughter so we eat meat and the Jerome Cheese Factory. Thanks.

^^^ I'm not following this.

The coil +/15 terminal (blue wire), and powerstage pin 4, get +12v power from the ignition switch. If this has gone away, there's probably a bad wire or connector pin. As a temporary test, you could jumper battery +12v direct to the coil +/15 terminal (leave the existing blue wire in place so that the powerstage is hot-wired too). You could also try wiggling the coil & powerstage wires while cranking.

Thank you. On to RockAuto to get:
  • Proper ignition coil
  • Power stage, igniter, or some call ignition control module
  • Ignition coil wire (coil to spark plug)
The factory coil, in there since June 1991, appears to have failed, and in doing so, caused fault in the power.
Sorry to dump all and everything, again. Nice Toyota FJ or a 1998-1999 Jeep Cherokee XJ, or both. Owld man needs a comfy with manual transmission, with a garage. In Idaho Falls? Sparks, NV? Need some Nikola BESS?

I'm curious about the factory coil. Do you have any primary resistance test results? Can you provide the PN on the bottom? Does that coil have the added black resistor bolted to the top as pictured below (PN 1 220 522 011)? I've never had a Bosch coil fail, but I ask because I think they can fail if they aren't reading the correct resistance specs.

Hiya Mr. Barton!
Sir, thank you kindly.
You are a Volvo Godfather as Uncle Dave Barton like our Uncle Art B.! Where is our Uncle Art?!?!?!
Yessir. I have the coil yet that Commercial Electric DMM from Lowe's or Home Despot is such utter garbage. Won't display decimals in value display. Connect the probes to any of the three or four coils I tried with the Commercial Electric DMM and the display show OL and also counts down to a short of all zeds like 000.
I carry a spare ignition power stage or ignition control module. So played new ignition coil roulette as an Autzone
TotalPro Ignition Coil C819VC and also from O'Reilly's as the Edelbrock Ignition Coil - 22739 (two of these). Connect the spare power stage, ran for maybe about a minute and then slowed and stopped. Did not connect the spare power stage to the what I believe to be failed Bosch coil that reads as OL or OOO, with extra time, using the Commercial Electric DMM (two AAA batteries, for xtra voltage push-push. Used the spare powewr stage with these maybe unwell made AutoZone and O'Reilly coils that apprently, according to their web sites work with 1991 Volvo 240. So called iPd, as Gresham, OR is closer to Jerome, ID where I am now. Over night air arrives with two after market power stages, a coil, and for some reason bought heat sink compound. The Bosch power stages (without heat sink) like the Bosch ignition coil are not in stock anywhere.
I'll get the part numer. May try the lime green DMMs at O'Reilly's. Rather havbe Fluke or Simpson (was analogue) again. These were seperated from my possession when I was not looking. One was a good Radio Shack DMM from the 1980s.
Installed one of the after market power stages and the ignition coil. Ordered on the phone with Nick at iPd. WAY cheaper than Rock Auto that had limited choice of not the best quality from reviews. Everyone advocates Rock Auto. iPd was again ultra clutch.
I'll get the (what I believe to be) the failed Bosch coil PN and maybe image. dated like June 1991. Had to reuse the June 1991 Bougicord ignition coil wire kittsgreyvolvo 240 was built with at Torslanda. The coild wire from O'Reilly was unusable.
The brickboard is not dead. Jarrod has disabled his site yet the AWS instance remains 'on'.
I'll post back here in a day or so.
Thank you, Mr. Barton!!!!
Happy Wednesday (all day long)!!!
Bruce bub and his kittysgreyvolvo 240 in Jerome, ID for now. Other two 240s are rotting in MO-state still.
Time for a Toyota FJ and / or 1998-1999 Jeep Cheokee with 4.0L I-6 and AX-15 manual gearbox.

Hiya Mr. Barton and Mr. bobxyz and folks,
The coil in question.
I have two heat sink mounted factory and known good ignition signal amplifiers or power stages. One in service at the time of failure and the known good spare. I served both with new quality heat sink goo some time ago.
So no Rock Auto. iPd came through with a replacement coil and two knock off ignition power stages. Popped both in replacing the coil you see in the image, recorded today about two months after my failure in stinky, yet we loves dairy, Jerome, ID.
1991 kittsgreyvolvo roared to life with the brightest bluest spark, like a Super Saiyan Blue (both Goku and Vegeta) I've seen with EZK116.
I still have the terrible Commercial Electric DMM that can't decimal values at all well with new dual AAA batteries. So I went 'system behaviorist' to diagnose and guesstimate the issues. A live guessfest. Moar guessfests!!!!!
So is the same Bosch PN, Mr. Barton. I'm in Coeur d'Alene chasing the next technical writer / illustrator job as the Finish energy storage company hated my politik. They blamed Trump repeatedly for their problems. Okay for Europe to charge tariffs for US goods when Europa imported. Too much Newsmax or OANN during lunch breaks. They also spied on me while working remotely. Windows 11 is shite for CAD work. PTC Creo is sort of garbage as is Dassault eDrawings, yet the Windoze 11 thing was many core i7 RAM o-plenty and was speedy like a P3 on Win2000. Terrible.
Thanks.
Where is Uncle Arty B.???? Oh, and Jarrod shut off the brickboard server yet the AWS front end site instance remains on and serves up the 50x errors. Hope that halps.
Happy Buttermilk in half gallons and ultra sourdough loaves!!!!
