While I was giving the car a thorough cleaning today I noticed a little rust around the "drain plug" in the driver's footwell. So I pull the plug up and it looks like it busted loose during my winter in UT and got some nice salty water in under the sound deadening. So it looks like the whole floor pan might need to be replaced.

My question is what is the easiest/best way to fix this? I almost want to sell the car and be done with it but I've put too much work into it already. Should I cut a good floor pan from a JY car and just weld it in?

How much does that part effect the structural integrity of the car? Does a professional need to do this?

I really have no experience with rust as I have only lived in UT for a year at most. What should I do?

Best is to cut another good piece of floor and have it welded in. Then thoroughly paint the inside of the floor of the car with a rust killer type paint to help preserve the repair and have the car last longer. If you can't find a good piece of floor pan. You can buy them from Skandix and other overseas Volvo parts suppliers. There really aren't any American companies selling Volvo sheet metal.
