3D Printed Parts Thread

I'm no 3D design expert (just got a Bambu P1S at the shop a couple weeks ago and started learning CAD) but man it sure would be cool if someone made a reasonable facsimile of the low mount fog light kit for facelift 700 and 900 series cars. Maybe to mount a standard rectangle Bosch or Hella lamp, or a modern LED equivalent.
I thought about doing this a few months ago but I don't have the skills or the space for a 3d printer right now. I would love to see this come to fruition though

Even if someone 3D scanned the nose of one of these cars and I could start working on it.
Something that fits like this, but holds a more generic, easy to replace lamp.

Quick shameless plug -- we are having a free 3D printed part giveaway over on our FB/IG page. Enter by the end of the week!

Also as always if anyone is genuinely looking to have custom parts made (especially for P80, P2 or 700/900 series) reach out anytime. We have a backlog of to-do's but we're always listening!

I can try to scan it over next weekend.

I added all of the recent files to the mega, including the non-thingiverse ones! If anyone has any requests for 240 parts, I finally got Solidworks and can give it a shot.

Here it is, it´s not perfect, but I think it should be sufficient... https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6943624

hello,

i got a 3d printer a few weeks back and wanted to share some designs i've made for my 92 240.

you can see here for a better cupholder design that i've created (https://makerworld.com/en/models/1108733#profileId-1104906)
i found that the existing models restrict access to the stereo as the cups are always in the way. and are also just not a visually appealing solution, in my opinion, so i figured the center would be the best location for this. newer vehicles feature rubber feet that surround cupholders so that more cup sizes can be used and still be stable. i intend on implementing this in the coming weeks if needed, and just putting in a set of them i can find on ebay or something.

i also created a double din stereo fascia to adapt a Sony XAV-AX-210, a carplay/android auto stereo equipped with a CD player, so that i could have this in the volvo as well.

i referred to a posting in ozvolvo here (https://ozvolvo.org/d/16609-16609) to build upon and print, but didn't really like what the model did to the heater vents as, to be honest, i didn't really want to go through with re-routing them with pvc tubing and didn't think they looked as good as stock. this also eliminates the possibility of installing gauge pods there, or a phone holder, etc. i considered the fact that i didn't want to block airflow while the heater is on, so holes follow along the length of the blower vent so that the heater isn't inhibited. mounting tabs are attached to the side of the stereo plate to attach it to the vehicle which can be found via the ozvolvo link in the file posted there.

let me know if you have any questions. i'm not a professional 3d designer or anything, but i figured these could help others get a starting place for their own projects - just as the above linked forum post assisted me greatly.

Your faceplate made me revisit this project in my car. I've never seen tiny vents here that I liked. Then I seen your staggered rectangles and fell in love. Thanks for the inspiration! I think I can get the vents to shutter aswell :)

hey camper,

thank you so much for the kind words, I really appreciate it!

you know those cars that have the side square decals that slowly fade off and become smaller? I've always thought those looked really cool so I tried to design them with that silhouette in mind.

I realize I didn't include a link to my stereo file, so please feel free to refer to it here:
if you end up needing the raw fusion 360 file for editing, just let me know.

if you can get the vents to shutter, I'd love a tag as I think that would be really cool!

I -might- have a fix for the NLA dog gate clips?! Fell down a rabbit hole with the dog gate clips last night - found this video which recommends using a part from a popular folding cart as a clip.

Here's the clip - can't find a source that would ship to the US.

I researched similar clips for a folding table and found this file - I think with some basic modification it could work. Gonna print it and see how it scales with my earlier model rack. Once the size is right shouldn't be too hard to modify it to accept a self-tapping sheet metal screw/etc.
I recently got a dog grate from the jy with the (broken) clips, seems like they'd be easy enough to reverse engineer.
Is there still a need for this?

I'd like to get some replacement gauge needles printed for restorations. Just the white needle portion. Many of the original needles have warped or gotten extremely brittle over time and are super fragile. I've broken a few. They must be able to withstand long sun exposure and heat. I can remove a couple to send for scanning etc. There are two different sizes that I need. Can anyone help?

Send a pic of what you want.
3d printing may not be the best solution, so maybe we can come up with a better one.

I made a 3d-printabe prancing moose grille badge for my 240, not sure if I should post it tho since Dave Barton has a copyright on the design and I don't know if he wants people printing them. Any input?

Ask Dave. I get the impression he's not the type to be bothered by it, considering what he's dealt with from Volvo themselves over that design, but just email him

Resin printing or nylon with a 0.2mm nozzle should do it.
