Like the title says, in my 1991 740, the vacuum operated blend door that actuates when the engine is on to (I assume) direct between different vent outputs, is making grinding noises as it actuates when the car turns on and off. Im assuming that the hinge mechanism or something is rusted. While it works now, Id like to keep it that way for the forseeable future. Is this something anyone has dealt with? Is it a full dash teardown to get inside the heater box and access it? Or is it something where I can get to it without going to all that trouble?
I also just had a thought, I replaced the front defogger vent piece on the dash since it was cracked, and in the process I dropped a handful of the original metal clips down the defogger vent. Is it possible these are jamming something up and this is what I'm hearing? I'm not sure what the layout of the heater matrix is and if they could get in the way of things.
