Hello all!

I'm very new to volvos, I have recently purchased a 1987 740gle 2.3 n/a B230 as a project. It needs a small amount of welding.

Two weeks later I have also bought a 1995 940 B230fk mainly for the engine, I'll probably pinch a door, tailgate, wheels and cut out some sections too to repair the 740 as I believe they are mostly the same shell.

I thought i would join the forum and start this thread to mainly pick your intelligent brains! I've had a couple of old projects in past but never a flying brick!

The 940 I have has a TD04 turbo and exhaust, other than that I believe it is standard. The egr valve has also been blanked.

I'm going to start by getting the turbo engine running how it should in the 940 to start. It seams to be idling slightly low and it's a little bit boggy when bringing the revs up.
I have checked the ecus for codes for which there aren't any.
What could be causing a slightly low idle? Throttle body position doesn't look like it has been messed with.

I am also trying to find information on what I shall need to do re wiring for the conversion, I know I will need to splice looms as I plan to keep the 740 dash and clocks. So any help here would be great.

I've been trying to figure out which gearbox and diff to use too, the 740 currently has the m46 4 speed with o/d. The 940 has the m90 gearbox. Which is best to use?

I look forward to your replies :)

I've done this swap (1988 K-jet system to LH2.4 from a 940) but it was several years ago so I can't tell you exactly which wires to splice! It's not too bad overall, but if you want the fuel system to operate exactly like it does in the 940 then you need to use the same relay and figure out the wiring.
I'd say use the M90 gearbox.
You could look for vacuum leaks. The idle control valve can be cleaned out.
