8hp70 in a 240?

so my aw71 will die when i install the twin sequential turbo 19t setup.
so i found an adapter that goes from a redblock to the 8hp70 n57.
but i dont know what i have to do to get the driveshaft to bolt on.

if the 8hp70 is shorter than the aw71 can i just get an adapter from the trans to driveshaft?

how long is the aw71?

the 8hp70 is 668mm long

whats a good tcu?

I just measured my spare AW71 with my very scientific tape measure and got 27 3/4" or about 705mm from the face of the bellhousing to the face of the output flange. This would leave you with about 37mm of space for a driveshaft adapter but the transmission adapter thickness also takes up some of this space. Depending on how thick your transmission adapter is you might not have enough space for a driveshaft adapter with the AW71 driveshaft. I believe the M46 driveshaft is shorter though so that might be an option.

HTG tuning makes a transmission computer that will control that transmission but I don't have any experience with it or any other controller options.

the adapter thickness is 23mm so i only have 14mm space

i have a machine shop that would help me with the driveshaft adapter.

The 8HP is huge and hangs pretty low in a 240 so be prepared for that. I have a Domiworks output flange and just shortened the stock driveshaft.

from your pictures it looks like its the sameish height as the subframe.
did you make the trans crossmember?
hows the driveshaft angle?
could you move the trans up?
how much lower is the trans?

That was the DCT. The 8HP hangs probably 2-3" lower than the frame rails.

I made the crossmember and transmission mount.

Driveshaft angle is fine. It's 2 piece so easy to adjust anyway.

There is no more room to move it up without cutting the tunnel.

You could maybe get an 8HP45 or 51 and have it be smaller. Mine is a 75.

Okay but twin turbo 19t?
yes sir. sequential twin turbo 19t

i can cut the trans tunnel.
i need the 8hp70 because of the torque when im making 500 whp
is the trans at that angle because you didnt cut the tunnel?
what size oil cooler would i need.
also thanks for the great picture

Sweet, I wasn't aware of any cars on here with an 8hp. What did you source the trans from? N57 bimmer?

You still using the htg controller??

damn. I would murder that thing on the roads around here

I didn't cut the tunnel. You still have to clearance the firewall a bit and even then it's still tight to install. Just so you know, installing this thing is not fun.

I'm using a gearbox oil cooler the same size as my stock volvo oil cooler.

From some B57 European BMW. Not sure what car exactly since someone else sourced it for me.

Yeah. It's way better with the 8hp than the DCT but still has quirks. I haven't driven my car in a while. I'm waiting on some turbo parts to be machined.

I haven't driven it a whole lot with this transmission so it's yet to be seen if I'll murder it on roads around here. I really don't want to cut the tunnel so I just have to have some finesse I guess. But this oil pan is also aftermarket and hangs down a little lower.

I wasn't planning on climbing under the car for any more pictures but oh well. The problem is near the output shaft the tunnel gets lower and narrower and forces the rear of the transmission down. Also the distance from bottom of the oil pan to output centerline is pretty high, so it's hard to get the oil pan far off the ground.

The lowest point on my exhaust hangs lower than my transmission oil pan and I've only scraped that a couple times on a relatively large drop off so hopefully I don't hit the pan. I did get an aftermarket aluminum pan that has a little more depth, so a stock plastic pan will give more clearance.

make a skid plate maybe, just for a buffer? I'm going to do that on my car just to protect the big flat bottomed oil pan.

I've thought about it. I've also thought about making a mostly flat bottom since I'd be in there anyway. But right now I'm not worried about it.
