Looking for close to drop in replacement speakers for my 92 240 front doors. They are an odd size, around 5 in. Years ago there were some Boston Acoustic ones that fit, but I don't think those are available any more.

They are 5.25". Do yourself a favor and buy a pair of Rockford fosgates. They're not really a drop in, but if you have hands you can install them. HUGE upgrade over stock. You will have to pull the door card and install these with a speed nut (included).

This is a hell of a deal.

Lots of Kmart speakers ITT. I recently installed speakers and sound dampened the front doors of an 86-88 http://forums.turbobricks.com/showthread.php?t=329670.

I hate to brand whore, but Boston's still have a very good price:performance ratio and you can still find NOS on eBay. I did.

Boss also makes a phantom series that i got from pep boys around 30 bucks. I listen to everythung from Zeppelin and Deftones to Nas and Asap Rocky . Great sound and duability for such a cheap speaker. Then there is also Kicker which i got fir around 20 bucks from Walmart, again pretty good quality and if im not mistaken the kickers were 4" in my 240

The previous owner of the 93 Volvo 240 that I now own and drive had previously changed the front door speakers.

The speakers that he used are too tall, and from all that I can tell, the replacement speakers will have to have a low profile or else the door glass will hit the speaker when the window is rolled up and down.

The factory Volvo speakers have a low profile of about 1" total.

The replacement speakers (too tall) have a profile of about 2".

Has anyone else had this problem with replacement speakers?
How high is the profile on the replacement speakers that you used??

Well yeah, you only have so much room to work with. The speakers I used were an inch and a half deep and clear fine. I made measurements and took pictures in the thread I posted a link to above.

I remember having this concern when I ordered the Rockford fosgates, but it wound up clearing fine. I don't remember the depth though, the link will probably tell.

I would do everything possible to try and reuse the OE speaker grilles. I really dislike the way 240 Volvos look with the aftermarket grilles. They tend to be huge and distracting.

If it's a DL with roll up windows, the handles bang into pretty much everything that isn't the factory grill. I couldn't use the grills that came with the 4 1/2" speakers I used because of interference.
