The late model 700 series has larger brakes than early cars, Can I just swap calipers and call it a day, or do I need to change more things?
Hello Guest, welcome to the initial stages of our new platform!
You can find some additional information about where we are in the process of migrating the board and setting up our new software here

I got some 850 t5 for my daily tires and peg's for my fun tires, so that should be fine. I'll grab the brackets with them if I find some in a junk yard.it's a bit more involved. You will also need the caliper mounting brackets for the calipers you are using. Then you have to make sure the wheels you are using clear the bigger calipers. Volvo used Adhara, and Aries 15" wheels to clear the larger calipers. Virgos, and Dracos don't fit.
No abs thankfully. I have not seen a car with the old hub/discs, and I have had an 85,86, and now an 87 700 series.I think it was 1988 the new brakes with separated hubs and discs were introduced. There have been conversion kits to separate disc and bearing available from Volvo, and if you are lucky your car already have one of them!
If not, it's not so fun since you have ABS (I assume?) and that has 96 teeth compared to 48 on newer (48 introduced in modelyear 1989 (88bin swedish market)), so you won't be able to just swap put the complete front struts including bearings to later 7/900 since that also has the wrong 48-teeth ABS ring. Im afraid also (but I might be wrong on year here) that 87 and older have another size spindle than the newer ones...
Good to know, thanksIf you have separate hub and discs already its much easier!
Although when introducing the "940 brakes" with 1 piston calipers in front and 280mm discs, the brake system was redesigned so that its one circuit to front, and one circuit for rear brakes, and with a proportional valve to rear brakes to reduce/eliminate risks for locking up rear brakes before front brakes. The proportional valve are different for 4dr and 5dr.
If you dont have ABS now, you will have front calipers with 2 brake hoses to each caliper, and triangulated brake circuits, each circuit have 1 out of the 2 pistons in front caliper and 1 side rear caliper.
