• Hello Guest, welcome to the initial stages of our new platform!
You can find some additional information about where we are in the process of migrating the board and setting up our new software here

Thank you for being a part of our community!

92 740T will start fine once, then sputters out and will not restart and stay running

pull each plug (individually) wire and check for spark
I don’t care if it’s new

Why see if it’s running on starting fluid if you “know” it’s getting fuel

You don’t really listen for vacuum leaks you look for them especially if engine is cranking

Does it run with the maf disconnected

Picture of the Engine bay … maybe we can spot something
Disconnecting maf wont let it crank very much at all. Ill try and get some pics and videos uploaded as soon as I can.

Do you have injector pulse? Screwdriver handle to you ear, tip to injectors, crank, hear it?

DOES IT RUN ON BRAKE CLEANER? Three long sprays into an open throttle body, crank/start, then pulse that shit into the throttle and see if keeps running. Injectors unplugged.

YES OR NO!?

Will check this ASAP, taking in laws to the airport tomorrow so should finally have some extra space to deal with it. Thank you for your patience with me.

The RSR just powers the injectors. Get out your $3 test lamp and confirm the power wire to the injector is hot, key on. Peel back the boot and probe from the back of the connector. Front probing is not good, you can spread the terminal and cause more problems. Make sure you are checking between the hot wire and known good ground. I think hot is orange.

Get a noid light to confirm injector PULSE during cranking. This will also confirm you have power to the injectors. $6

CONFIRM spark. Turn your phone sideways and click my NO START thread.

SPARK?

If you got good spark. You should be able to run that biznatch on brake cleaner until the can runs out. If not, you have a mechanical issue like cam timing, or ignition issue. If it DOES run, and stay running, on starting fluid you gotta shakedown the fuel system.

Sorry for the delay on response, been stuck with kid and bad weather. Just got out and ran the test light, all injector wires are pulsing correctly, nothing solid. Got it to idle as well so got a few videos of it that I linked. It's smoking a little since I missed the hole when doing the oil change recently. With what I am getting, would injectors not be a possibility?https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1a_ygJSMx5r9nQlqXySr0SwfIH8_-cPXc

Ok so it runs now, but like shit.

What's the 02 sensor voltage reading once it has warmed up?

It doesn't sound like it's misfiring on a certain cylinder. I would be checking things like fuel pressure, volume and quality.

I would also be checking for massive air leaks. Smoke test.

Does it even rev? What happens when you snap throttle?

It's gotta have a CEL illuminated underneath all those stickers on the cluster. CODES???

2nd video shows snapping throttle, it bogs for a split second and then catches. Surprisingly there hasn't been any check engine light or any codes thrown through the plug in tester under the hood.

I bet if you run it for a while it will eventually throw fuel mixture code.

I can't tell what is going on in that second vid. I don't see it ever go over 2k. what happens when you floor it? You can do all this under the hood with the throttle spool.

Get a meter on the single wire from the 02 sensor. other two wires are heater circuit. Whats the 02 sensor voltage once the engine warms up? Pegged rich? Pegged lean? or oscillates?

When I bump it past 2k, it will hold rpm until I let off, but when letting off it has an intermittent cutout that I've noticed, and it will also randomly hold higher idle as well. I'll grab reading from o2 asap and I'll try to let it run for code
