93 240 Pickup Project Ruby

Get yourself a U-sonic parts cleaner if you don't already have one. Such a joy to pull out those sparkling Swedish parts before reassembly.

Lots of used medical grade cleaners on eBay; a lot of bang for the buck.
You can put gasoline in an ultrasonic... works even better!!!

What capacity should I be looking for - the sizes are all over the place. You're saying NOT a new Chinese one, look for a used one? I need a little more detail if you don't mind

I'll send you a pic of what I use once I get home..... enjoying sunshine and gulf breezes at the moment. Made in Pittsburg, medical application, they are on eBay regularly.

Rebuilt the 15g cartridge this afternoon. Quick & easy as I already had a CHRA I had thoroughly cleaned prior to this.

Washed with gasoline remove the oil coating

Housing removed, no wheel marks, which indicates bearing failure was not the cause of the problems with this unit

Mark the shaft, nut and wheel, so it can go back without re-balancing

wheel removed, impeller & shaft tape out of CHRA - obvious oil control ring failure here

removed all the coking from the impeller shaft. Both the oil control ring seat & the forward groove need to be completely clear

PXL_20260226_210557905.jpg

New oil control ring installed one shaft, new soaked bearings installed, impeller pressed (by hand) back into the CHRA

PXL_20260226_211053463.jpg

Thrust plate & spacer installed, new oring installed

Old parts for reference
PXL_20260226_211250386.jpg

Oil slinger, forward housing w/oil control ring & carrier installed w/snap ring
PXL_20260226_211646101.jpg

Wheel back on, LHD nut tightened, aligning all three markings
PXL_20260226_212256707.jpg

Assembled CHRA in the compressor housing - I forgot to ask on here if the CHRA clocking needs to be altered for install on a redblock

Tools I find extremely helpful in the job

Here's a couple pics.... I have one large, on standard size:

Depth are identical, around 5". You buy stainless baskets to support items so nothing contacts the bottom. Simple Green HD, I cut it about 5 to 1 with hot water. Cleans like a dream.......

Thank you - can't tell from your pic what volume/ capacity your is - there is a wide range & prices range into the $4-500 range (!)

OK - the 3.7L 130W FS30 goes for around $200 used on eBay, without any basket. Larger capacity 10L Vevor 180W units go for about $120 - I'm wondering if the Fisher unit is substantially more reliable? There are also many of them for parts on eBay.

I noticed a few for parts.... can only guess that idiots turned them on after filling the container with metallic goods?

So far, so good on my pair of Fischers. Been using the oldest about 5 years now. Bought both for ~ $100.

No experience, no trust on the PRC units......

EDIT - the units I have are the FS20 and larger FS30.

I have a Harbor Freight ultrasonic. Been fine for the last several years.

I don’t think you need to spend a bunch of money on one. Its a pretty simple device.

Pulled the alignment pins from the angle flange WG housing and compressor housing, so I can reclock for the RB install

Put the Bilstein B6's in yesterday (FCP) and the strut mount reinforcements from off here (forgot the name)

Wrapped that up today with the B6's for the rear. Should be better for the upcoming turbo setup than the stock hydro dampers I removed.

how well do the strut mount reinforcements work? I need to get new mounts (already have new struts) as the ones on there are pretty old

On the 240 it stops the rubber from deforming so much. I don't know if they make them for 740s

I checked around and seems they don't as its not as much of an issue. I'm going to chalk the last failure of my mounts to just time and maybe getting a little air time

Got my Mum(85) to part with her C70 & get a 4dr Volvo. Swapped over her newer wheels & tires. I put the S60T5 wheels on Ruby
I'm thinking 17's are too large for my tastes.
I think I'll put the Hydras back in Ruby & put these on the 743 truck

3" MAF housing finally came from Flybricks (took almost 2 months) - with this I can take the guts from a 016 MAF & not worry about finding a hard to come by Volvo version
I also have to chip files from Simon, so I can also try those out when I finally get to the Turbo install
