I've been wondering about this for awhile. I pretty sure that no US 740/940 had the option for a cabin air filter. Did any of the euro 940's have it as an option? How about the 960's? If such an option exists for the European market would someone please sell it to me? My spring time allergy's would thank you.

Yes, there are two versions available. Both versions are available from Volvo and aftermarket suppliers.

The normal air filter style (paper fibre?) costs close to nothing. 15-25 bux or so.

The active coal filter costs close to 100 bux though, but if you are allergic it is definitely worth it. And most strong odours are eliminated as well.

The expensive filter is what I have always used, and it is definitely worth it.

What DustyLBottoms said. We need part numbers for the filter holders for 900 series cars.

Thanks,
Stephen

How's about some part numbers? I don't know that US spec cars have anything to actually hold a filter in place. :-(

I will fix that when I get home tonight.

And you should be able to go to any store that sell cabin air filters and ask them for one.

I have not had the time to check the numbers. I will do that tomorrow though.

Any updates on the part numbers?? I pulled the cowling off behind the hood and took a look. If the filter is suppose to go there it's going to be a major pain to change.

I am searchin. I can't find it right now.

We're all waiting in suspense! Please, I'm about to rig something up here.

Have you pulled the cowling and had a look yet?? There is plenty of room for a filter but the factory intake is an odd shape. Something could be rigged but it would take some tinkering.

I have a problem with small pieces of foam coming through the vents into the cabin.

I did a bit searching but could not find a thread regarding this. Perhaps I have a foam cabin filter breaking up, any more information on the location of the filters?
This is on a 94 945, but I had a similar experience with a 740.

The foam comes from all the air control doors in the (for lack of a better work) plenum. Volvo calls this box something else but the term escapes me at the moment. The best way to deal with it is to remove the plenum and scrape off all the old, dry rotted foam. This is a big job, I did it when I had to change the heater core. The other solution is to pull the vents and run a vac cleaner hose down the ducting. This will pull most of the loose foam out of the system. You will do this more than once as more foam will break loose from the plenum as it dry rots.

Hey Fredrick, any luck with the elusive cabin air filter setup for the 940's?? Alergie season has started!!
