96+ 960/S90 front-end on a 940

Hi guys,

I am wondering about the feasibility of grafting the late, pointier front-end to my 940. I think I will need:

Hood
vent, plastic panel & sundries under the hood
wiper arms and gears?
fenders
bumper
headlights & grill & etc
etc

I am concerned whether I'm going to have a very "challenging" time fitting the hood hinges because they seem to sit further back compared to the 940.

A better question: do I _have to_ change the hood to the 960/S90 style?

Has anyone done this conversion before? Any other advice, interesting points, things to look out for?

thanks people.

Hi Affa

To fit a post 96 960/s90 front end on a Pre 95 940 you keep your bonnet and use the front bumper, guards lights, grill, and all the fixtures from the post 96 960/s90 car.

To fit a post 96 960/s90 front end on a post 95 940 you use all the front panels and the front bumper, guards lights, grill, and all the fixtures from the post 96 960/s90 car.

You did not say what year your 940 was. The pre 95 940 have a space between the bonnet and the windscreen. The post 95 940 if there is any in OZ have the same bonnet as the post 96 960/s90

I'm a bit unsure, but your sig says '92 940SE and I thought that was only a '91 model. Anyhow, if that's the same as the '91 940SE we got in the states, it already had the 960 front end of the early model. Either way you could keep your hood, whether it was the 940 or 960 style, but since you may already have the 960 style it's even better for a swap. I'm not aware of all the details, but I can dig up Pete Moorcroft's email for you, as he has done it all when it comes to body modifications (745 to V90 look).

Good luck.

Hi there guys, thanks for the tips, I need more! :D

My car is indeed a '92 945SE, the SE came out here in Australia in 1992, instead of 1991 as in USA.

The 940 series died a quiet death here in 1994 and hence none of the 940 here have the 960 style front-end

because mine is a wagon, it didn't come with the 960 front, IRS nor the interior, I do have electric-everything though

towerymt PLEASE do dig up that email I will appreciate it a lot. In a way that is exactly the info I need.

Hey aussie (and anyone else in Australia), I just put my old project car to sleep and got a whole bunch of goodies for a 2xx. you interested? send me an email. Also are you in the VSCC?

thanks guys.

Hi Affa

Does your 940 turbo front end look like the cars in the next 2 pictures

If your car looks like the car above and you do a V90 front end conversion it should look like the car in the photo below

Right on, thats what I got. :D

If you don't mind a little wait I'll have some pix with the parts after the easter weekend. The parts are in a friend's garage at the moment as I have moved into an apartment and dont have a lock-up garage (aka chopshoppe)

brief list - for 2XX - coil-overs with bilsteins - adjustable ride height, camber and castor, SAM high-camber lower ball joints, SS/PTFE brake lines. Rear bilsteins. SAM strut braces (top and bottom). IPD 1"sways front and back. Overload wagon rear springs. Custom (and NSW RTA engineering approved) adaptors for recaro seats. SAM/VOLVO 20mm rear wheel spacers. A set of 5 Hydra 16" or 4 Simmons FR17 (7.5" front 8.5" rear) dont know which set I'll keep for my 945

Must find a new chopshoppe

So if I do go ahead with the swap I'll have a pair of perfect E-code for sale! :badboy:
