Adding Modern A/C to a 140?

I have recently acquired all the ducting necessary to add A/C to my 142s.

I was hoping to add a more modern system that would be less of a power suck on the engine than the original system was. I was originally planning on having @planetman and @hiperfauto do the conversion, but the car was stuck in paint and body jail right at the time the bad things happened.

Does anyone have a nice parts list for this? Or know of a reputable place in Southern California who'd take on such an endevour?

Lucas Auto in Van Nuys was a good source for conversion and custom add-on parts for A/C systems. See if they still do that.
I would figure out the compressor to use and brackets. I think there are conversion kits available that let you drop a modern compressor in place of the old York.

I have plans for modifying all the OE stuff to run an orifice tube setup with the envirosafe r12 replacement. I have that stuff running in my 760 and 242 and its amazing compared to 134, though I know the OE 140 is n afterthought. My dad said he never remembers it blowing cold

Given the tag in my signature, I was hoping someone who may have done this before would know what compressor makes sense.

You will need to make a custom bracket for whatever compressor you use. The Late 240 compressor would likely work great, but there is most defiantly no bolt on solution, unless you find a dealer installed ac 140. Also you never said what year 140, that could help, as I think you could attempt to fit a late 240 heater box into a late model

There are many places that offer complete York to Sanden compressor conversion kits or just brackets.
Do you have the original York A/C bracket on your B20?

Good to know those exist, likely to use one with my conversation. The York compressor is so big

I don't think I have the bracket. I do have some weird idler pulley tho.

Here is a custom made one for the rotary compressor, probably modified from the original by someone in Australia.

  • The above was copied from the SwedeSpeed.com site. You can find him there and contact him, or use this email address. He's been making and selling brackets for a long time which you can use to replace the old York compressor with a modern Sanden one.
