I got a V70 T5, my2001 and i need to replace the alternator.
I have got it lose and free but i can't get it out...
There is an alu steeringpump bracket obstructing on the left that is also in the way to move the alt upward.
there is the intake manifold on the right
down below is the aircopump
and i can't go forward because the alt bracket is caught in a sandwich between airco pump and block...

How the **** am i supposed to get this thing out?! :-(
Am i supposed to take of the entire intake system?
The guy who designed this setup deserves a slapping.

I haven't done one in a while, so I might be forgetting something. But its not too bad, I liked doing them.

Drain some coolant out to avoid a mess, remove the upper radiator hose from the radiator, then remove the 2 bolts that hold the top of the radiator to the slam panel so the radiator can be pushed forward some and the alternator can be squeezed past the upper radiator neck. Remove the intercooler hose that sits in front of the alternator.

Remove the 3 bolts that hold the power steering pump to the bracket through the holes in the pulley. You shouldn't have to disconnect the suction hose or line, just tie it out of the way.

Remove the top two bolts that hold the a/c compressor and alternator to the bracket. Loosen but don't remove the bottom 2 bolts that hold the compressor to the bracket (this will allow you to slide the alternator up away from the compressor. There is one more bolt that holds the alternator at the front of the engine (right side of car).

After that you just rotate the alternator around and find a way to squeeze it out of the hole from the top while pushing the top of the radiator forward.

I always found it easier on v70s than s60s for some reason, even though they would be the same they always seemed to have just a tiny bit more room there.

This is the info i needed! Thanks!

well, the replacement alternator that i got from a P&P turned out to be rotten as well. Probably a f-ed up diode inside. Sometimes it drained the battery, sometimes it didn't. Annoying.

So i went and bought a reconditioned tested alternator , it comes with 1j warrenty. And it's a 140A from a D5.
It FITS on a T5, without issue eventhough it's a little but bigger. :-)
It uses the same bracket/mounting holes and it has the same pully on it with the correct allignment to the multi-belt.
The only thing i needed to adapt was the signal wire, it uses a different connector.

why install a 140A? my car has an LPG system installed that uses a high pressure pump, 1 extra control module and 5 extra injectors. All extra drain on the battery (70Ah)
