240 Anyone try the VP Autoparts 240 steering rack?

Right on....

I wonder then....probably the one they've got over at IPD is a CVI too. I also wonder if it's worth the gamble. It'd get here the quickest, and it's ~$60 cheaper...

IPD: $475 + $79
CVI: $453 + $159
CVR: $666 +$56
VP Auto: $666 + $76

Then again...what's a 'gamble' when you drive the car less than 1,000 miles a year?
If the pictures are anything to go by, the iPd one has the plastic preload plug that the original and reman racks have. The other three links have what look like steel plugs. So not the same product at iPd unless they just used whatever pictures they already had. The tube is also painted black.

It makes me think it is a different source. Wouldn't be surprised if they had enough pull to do that. I am leaning towards CVI/VP/CVR personally.

Well, i'll be damned....the old one WAS a ZF rack. After a side-by-side comparison, I can see why these ZF racks are so desirable. They're beefy...

So...can someone talk to me about mounting hardware? There was a spacer plate that came out from between the rack and cross member, on the driver's side (you can see it in the picture, just left of the steering gear). Does this need to go back in on this newer rack? I've done CAM racks before, but I don't recall there being a spacer there....

FYI I asked IPD about their rack and they said it is brand new and sourced through CRP automotive. They speculated the other retailers were also sourcing the same rack, but it was just a guess.

I was able to find a listing on CRP's website for a Volvo 240 rack and it looks the same as IPD's picture, including the black body.

I ended up having to use that spacer plate from the driver's side of the ZF rack after all....but on the passenger side. The cross member interferes with that fitting and line on the passenger side of the CAM rack, and even with that extra spacer under the mounting hardware, the line on this new rack still just barely makes contact with the cross member.

I remember that fitting being awfully close to the cross member the last time I replaced a CAM rack in a 240...but I still don't recall having to shim the CAM mounting hardware....?
