B18B (PV544) Oil Leak Question

Joined
Feb 4, 2016
1 sprang an oil leak at the front my motor - splashing a bit of oil over the belts etc. Hard to see exactly where it is, but it's in the lower portion of the front of the motor below the fan, so would I be correct to suspect the front crank seal? If yes, I also noticed that IPD has an entire timing cover with silocone seal (instead of replacing the felt seal. Any thoughts on this?

Thanks,
C

yeah do it
it's cheaper/about the same than getting your current cover machined to fit the new style of seal

or post in wanted thread to see if anyone has one for you on here

Don’t forget to order the seal between block and timing cover

Bottom of the cover goop it with RTV

The original seal was just a felt ring with a drain. Works soft of OK when the felt is new and clean and pliable. Doesn't work so well when it's gunked up. The rubber seal is a big improvement.

The rear main seal is also a felt ring, but it's harder to swap that one.
