I thought sure that it would take a group 24. I bought one a brought it home and it does not have the provisions for the hold down. What is the factory battery that works? Thanks.

The car is set up with the battery on the fender side.I thought sure that it would take a group 24. I bought one a brought it home and it does not have the provisions for the hold down. What is the factory battery that works? Thanks.
It’s on a 1983 242 that I’m trying to keep as original as possible.Switch to the later model plastic tray or get creative with straps
Im pretty sure I had a 24 originally. Is a 24 battery bottom lip much different from the one you were using before? I'm using a 24 in my 940 and stock hold down works fine.
I tried this on another 240 turbo i owned and found they the oil cooler was in the way for the clip. The 86+ plastic tray also uses the battery flange for the factory hold-down. Except instead of a bolt it uses the shape of the tray + a plastic clip thingie to wedge it in place. If OP is missing the flange on their battery it still won't work with the OEM setup.
Interesting - our sales literature at my work just says 48 for all of them. A 24F has reversed posts (for a Ford application), so I'm trying to crane my head around and picture how that would work in a 700.1987-93 240s used the 47 battery. 48 was stock for 700/900 series, though. A group 24F battery works as a suitable replacement for a 48 in a 700, btw. Pre-1986 240s used the 46 battery and a metal tray.
It's just an optional battery size and being in Canada where it's colder it's probably a preferred size for your area.Interesting - our sales literature at my work just says 48 for all of them.
