Bits and bobs regarding a manual swap on a 940

Working on starting to get the parts pile for a manual swap on my brick, my car is a 1995 N/A B230 with a AW71 tranny and open diff.

Mutual volvo friend is offering a m90 driveshaft and 2 m46s in pieces - one with and one without overdrive. Im thinking of going with a BMW gearbox considering m90s are really hard to find while getrags and zfs are plentiful. I found some bellhousing adapter plates that mate m46/7s to the BMW boxes so im wondering if anyone has had much experience with the same swap. Apart from clutch cylinders, pedal boxes etc is there anything else I should try to get from my volvo guy - flywheel/clutch suggestions etc.

Going to be my first bigger job on a car so all tips and tricks are welcome, thank you for your time!

If your using a bmw getrag 265 transmission you also have to use the getrag throw out bearing when you use the redblock bellhousing you cut the middle part out with a hole saw so the getrag input shaft housing goes through it and the volvo throw out bearing does not fit on that so you have to use bmw throw out bearing. Then you have to modify the volvo clutch fork open it up a little bit so it fits over the bmw throw out bearing. As far as a flywheel any redblock flywheel will work with right sized bmw clutch disc. Dog dish LH 2.4 flywheel takes a 228mm or 9 inch clutch disc. Other then that stock LH 2.4 flywheel, other options are custom ones, either flat flywheel modified with LH 2.4 holes and those usually use a 215mm clutch disc or 8.5 inches. Or some aftermarket flywheel. I use JohnV custom billet steel with 240mm saab pressure plate and 240mm BMW z3 clutch disc with lh2.4 holes. There is a thread on here were I have the measurements of the Front half of the driveline you'll need custom made for this swap. What I did for the shifter was use the BMW shifter but welded a volvo shifter ball mount on it further back so it was in the correct location for the 740 or 940 shift hole. Then I welded the shift rod from the bmw getrag to the volvo rod to the correct lenght. For the tranny mount I used a 90 degree angled metal with hole and bolted that to the two bolts on the back of the tranny low and then I could use the stock volvo tranny mount and crossmember.

28.5 inches long for the front section of driveline for getrag in a 740 with redblock. Measured from guibo flange to other end of front driveline. No guibo on flange when measured. Measure from the flange part not that part in the middle with bearing that sticks out. The front driveline is all you have to have made longer.

Send it somewhere if you have to.

There is no stock driveline that works so no one will probably have one laying around.

The other thing is use 120 mil tube, not 60 mil those will break like Bergen did to his that was 60 mil tube.
