Hello fellows, I hope I'm in the right place. I got a new project and would like to share my process and am seeking your help.

The Car:

1984 242 Turbo

I'm trying to upload a photo, but it only allows it through a url. What's the best way to do this? My photos are on google photos and downloaded to this computer.

Respectfully,

Big Al

The car was purchased from a yard sale a buddy of mine was having before he moved. I saw the grill peeking out from behind the garage and wandered around to see what was back there. My intrigue grew as I spotted the louvered back windshield. I had to ask "whats the deal?" Tucker then told me that it was the most fun car he'd ever driven, and I knew he'd driven a bunch, as he was moving to take a position on an IMSA race team, and had an APR Audi race car in the garage. The Volvo had been sitting since 2013 after a cross country trip had involved a spark plug blowing out of the head, and the heli coiled repair, which was done in Texas, was not sealing like it should. He was planning to find a head and replace it but life happened. He had a few more cars inside the garage that were worth buying, and had been well taken care of, but I just couldn't help asking how much he wanted for this one. He said "what'll you give me?"...500 bucks.

I use a site like postimages or imgbb for most photos, although sometimes the sites go down temporarily. You can upload them directly into the thread (you may have to be a donating member) as long as they are under 1mb, but most of my images have to be resized to fit.

Thanks

I donated to the cause, and can try those sites.

Resize the images to smaller than 1mb. Then you can drag and drop the picture files right into the file attachment window that comes up. As a donor you can do this in all forums except off topic which needs some version of picture hosting.

Edit: You can use microsoft paint to resize images.

Excited to see the 242!
Well, it only took me six months to start the project. Life happened.... but I have started. Volvo_242_Barn.jpg

This was where it sat out back for many seasons.

When I saw the louvers I knew I had to have it!

Looks like an NPR/Isuzu FMIC behind the radiator. Yes, someone had TB'd this 242 for sure.

I also own an 84 242, and I think we have the same paint. Snap a pic of your serial plate and add to the thread.....could be twins!

B21 or B23/230, any idea what is in it? Stick or Autotragic?

Awesome find

Get the head inspected thoroughly if you haven't already, mine had micro cracks between the valves. Virtually impossible to spot until it was really well cleaned up!

Had it all back together and then it was pressurizing the cooling system !

Nice find! Voluparts in Atlanta will have most of what you will need to get it back on the road. If you need a cyl head, I just pulled a B21 out of a 81 and can pull the head if need be.

^It's K-Jet. See the control pressure regulator on the block, just behind the distributor? Intake manifold is a B23F or B230F/FT part, though.

What his car probably looks like, assembled. Have the same setup on my 242.

Thank you for the letting me know this. I'm going to school right down the road from them and didn't know. I was able to source a head, but it means a lot that you would consider doing that.

It's a B21ft I believe, and a manual with overdrive. I'll post a picture of the plate to see if we have been separated since birth!

I had to get the flu because it's the holidays, and I haven't been able to do much more than take care of my dog, and two goats, but my fever broke yesterday and I was/am really thankful for all the support and interest that's coming from you all. This makes me feel much better and I hope to take some more pictures and update some tomorrow. What a great group!
