Apologies I am sure this has been covered a million times but search function on here isn't the best.

Have to take the Porterfields off they are squeaking horribly and driving me nuts - what are folks using that are a low noise performance (street) pad?

Thankns

I use Powerstop carbon ceramic on all my cars, they dont make any noise unless you have slotted and drilled rotors. If you do there is a quiet clicking sound on light braking as they pass over the slots.

What car are you asking about though

For volvos my go-to is still akebono ceramics. Very quiet and minimal dust with a solid bite.

I installed EBC yellow stuff pads on my car about 2 months ago. Lots of brake dust, but there was always a lot of brake dust (previously used Volvo pads). I really like them.

You can get Hawk HPS pads for a 240. I've ran them on my M5 and I liked them. The friction coefficient felt linear with pedal pressure, I never got them really hot so I can't speak for being trackable. I had some oe compound Pagid pads on my 240 and they were actually dangerous. They'd fade a lot after any hills, dusted a lot, and wore out in 10k miles. I'm currently running Volvo brand pads now after not touching any other part of the brake system and they've been what you expect, pretty average.

Well along with all these great suggestions. I have just tried out the Centric Posi Quiet pads on my 93 wagon. They have been great so far. Low noise and reasonable dust. They come with shims and a wear in coating. Plus great price on them at Rock Auto.

I put HP plus in mine after destroying a set of OE pads, they definitely make some noise but I have no complaints. After about 1.5 years and a few trackdays they're close to metal on metal.

HPS would probably be a nice choice for street only use from what I've heard. I like the feel/bite/price of the OE metallic pads (for 240) but they're real dusty and they disappear rather quickly once you get them smoking hot.

Are the piston slots in the right position, ie towards the axle , see the manual?

swedish car parts has Mintex and PBR, neither of which I has seen in a long time and also have a new "house brand" ceramic pads and I think VP has some ceramic as well, this is 240 stuff

I used Bosch Quietcast and no issues. No squeals and enough friction to lock up the brakes on dry pavement if you wanted.

I had steelies at the time though so I didn't really pay any attention to dust.

I used Hawk HPS on my 245 for almost ten years and over 100k out of one set. Went to Volvo pads when I finally had to replace them and kind of regret it. Volvo pads are noisier and way dustier.

I think Centric also offers a low-rust nickel iron rotor for 240s.
