CD009 Swap Guide 7/900 Edition.

For a 740 I would get the SerialNine shifter. That's what bought.

For us who are trying to save a penny where ever we can, would the dimensions of this shifter work for 740/940? I have the original stuff and a friend who can fabricate. I’m asking now because I’m not able to take measurements on my own car till end of august.

Which measurements would you need? I don't have the original shifter anymore and the tranny is on the motor in the car with a whiteblock DeeWorks adapter plate and whiteblock bellhousing.

Looks like the SerialNine comes at around 31 inches at the middle position for the shift stick from the front of the bellhousing on my setup.

That’s the white block bellhousing? And thanks that’s what I would need because if I can just tell my friend he can cut and reweld the original shifter and theoretically I can get a good quality shifter for less! Plus if it doesn’t work I can always just put out the money 😂

Yes it's a whiteblock BH with DeeWorks adapter plate.

I once took these measurements on a drift car I installed the engine and tranny in for a friend... This one is with a Redblock BH and Deeworks adapter plate. Looks like it's coming out a little bit shorter than with the whiteblock BH.

That’s a lot better, obviously I’ll double check it when I pull my auto to do the swap, but this gives me a great idea on where to be!

I'm thinking about that right now. M90 is driving me insane, so I may sell it depending on how much I can get a CD for.
There aren't many in Australia for sale, and you can acquire a brand new one from the US for $2300 plus freight.
I'd love to know how things have been up to this point. Are there any issues?

You didn't have the Infinity variants in Australia like de G37 and M37? A nice used one from a 2016 370z with 10k miles is $1800 CAD + txs over here at the moment.

All of the 370/G37 transmissions are identical to the CD009, although having different model numbers. JK41A, JK41B, and K40C. Because it is clear if one of these is a later strong version or an earlier weak version, purchasing one of these may be simpler. If the sticker has come off, it can be quite challenging to distinguish between the early and late variants of the CD00X gearbox. However, a lot of the early 350/G35s were replaced under warranty, so it's still possible to strike it fortunate. Sometimes a later (but still weak) version is used, and other times a CD009.

Haven't read all of the replies, but if a standardized trans crossmember hasn't been made, send me the napkin drawing and I'll CAD it up + optimization. I can also do the shifter relocation. Then maybe we can get it over to yoshi or someone to stock. (credentials: Mech. Eng. for one of the world's largest automakers)

Josh at Yoshifab has been making trans crossmembers for several years now. He used my car as the template for the 7/9 series. A shifter relocation with reverse lockout that works for under $500 is needed though.

Good to know on the first front, for the latter, if anyone provides locating measurements, I'll design one up!

By the way, what is everyone doing for clutch pedal/master cylinder? I saw the wilwood mentioned, but what are pedal options? Seems like the cable pedal is out and finding a hydraulic pedal seems like a nightmare.

MKM Motorsport sells a nice steel pedal for hydraulic clutch. You can even fit an OE pedal rubber pad to it if you like.

Willwood pedal and master is around 240 for everything. It almost bolts right in.

I need a new shifter. Looking for feedback on tail mount shifters for a 740. We struggled with 4th to 5th shifts on the racetrack last weekend.

Anything positive or negative to say about the serial9 or GKTech? Needs to be robust as it is going on a racecar.

I have the Serial9 installed but my car is not running yet. I have a friend with a Serial9 in a T6 swapped 960 but it's not running at the moment also!. He had a GKTech in his 940 on a CD009 and he didn't like it at all.

My team mate has one behind his LS swapped 740. He likes it.

Get that car running.

Another guy I know has the Serial9 on his 740 2JZ drift car with a CD009. He likes it a lot but says that you have to be careful on the shifts because the 1st and 3rd + 2nd and 4th are very close on the gate so there is a possibility for a money shift. You don't have to row through the gears as fast on a lapping car than on a drift or drag car so I guess it would be less of an issue.

You can grind some material off the shift detents and get some more side movement, you can also get a longer shift rod. Mine has taken some adjustment. But I have the front mount autosports engineering shifter. I would also recommend against using Mt 85 redline in a new transmission. Mine takes forever to warm up. Otherwise is feels knotchy and falls out of third when not under load. Probably going to put oem fluid in. That's what I am hearing from other people with swaps.
