Does anyone have the front mount autosports engineering shifter? Besides me?
I replaced the *CRAPPY* CBF Performance front/top mount on mine with the Autosports Engineering shifter and it is IMMENSELY improved.

The CBF had a lot of wiggly vagueness, which was infuriating when the overall shift pattern with 6 gears on it was pretty small. And the slop only got worse with use.

I haven't had the Autosport Eng. shifter in for long, but it's solid feeling. The pivot ball is steel, welded to the shift rod, it will take a long time for any noticeable wear to make it looser. The CBF used a plastic ball on a pin on the shaft (one source of slop) interacting with pins in the housing (another source of slop).

Nice metallic click click click feel, nice tight shift pattern. Not quite as slick as the Miata's master class 6 spd shifter, but waaaaaaay nicer than it was.

Only thing I couldn't get working for some reason was the reverse gear lockout. The up and down spring motion of the stick didn't seem like it was enough to both have the pin engage the lockout plate, and move under it for reverse. I messed about with for a bit and then just left it off. I might try again later.

Good info, when I installed my top mount I forgot to shorten the shifter detent, and forgot to remove metal in the case, so it comes out of 5th gear sometimes. Otherwise I love it. Need to drop the trans and so those things, would definitely make it more injoyable.
