Chip Tuning a B230FT

I purchased a set of chips from redblockpowered about a month ago. His website advertised 1-2 weeks delivery but am now learning that that is not the case. I have sent several emails with no reply and am now seeing on this forum and on Facebook that he ghosts people. No reply and then the chips just randomly show up like 6 months later. I unfortunately cannot wait that long and am pretty frustrated with the service.

All that aside… Does anyone have suggestions on other lh2.4 tuning options. I have a b230ft swapped into my 240, currently on stock turbo computers. I see that a company called flying brick sells chips and daughterboards on Etsy. The reviews look good but does anyone have experience with their products? I am in need of getting my car tuned as soon as possible. It is near undriveable at the moment on the stock turbo computers with the upgrades I have done.

I have no experience buying or running chips from flyingbrickparts or redblockpowered. That being said, how close is your setup to the setup used to develop their chips? Cam, boost, NA or Turbo pistons, injectors, MAF, exhaust, fuel octane or ethanol%, auto/manual, etc.? What are you running now when it's "near undriveable"?

@bobxyz Not sure on boost as it cuts out with the factory fuel cut. I think around 16-17 turned all the way down. I’ve got 390cc injectors in right now so it’s running way too rich. I’ve got bigger injectors to go in when it’s tuned. Running 2.5in Maf but have the 3 in ready to go with tune. Wiseco pistons, T cam, 2 1/2 in exhaust, 93 octane, and M47 (going to baby it for now and probably t5 swap if and when when it breaks). I don’t have an upgraded cam or an upgraded intercooler. But other than those, I am close to their setups.

I purchased a wasted spark board from the etsy guy flying bricks. Recieved product in a resonable time and sent him couple questions. He answered right away. Before that I ordered from a place wasted spark kit, recieved nothing. I sent mulitple emails, unsure if its same guy your dealing with, Id have to go back and checked email. But wouldnt change anything if it was.

3 inch AMM matches 550cc injectors no tune needed meaning with stock chips that will work. 390cc injectors with the stock turbo fuel pressure regulator is too rich at 16psi? Weird. What turbo you running? I sell generic chips get rid of fuel cut, higher revs, better ignition basic chips. 50 a set. I don't do custom tunes for certain sized injectors.

I ordered an EZK ignition timing daughterboard V2 from RedBlockPowered and tried messaging him about it not working correctly. Three emails later and nothing. Finally just did a refund request through PayPal and he hasn't responded to that either.

The injectors I was planning on running are the s60r green giants which I believe are 460cc. I’m honestly not sure on the turbo. I bought it from a local guy who bought it rebuilt in 2003 and never installed. The brand is Garrett air research and I put t3/t4 oil lines on it. Has a bigger exhaust housing than the Mitsubishi turbos. Not sure if the intake housing is bigger or not. I don’t have a widened but can just smell it running rich. And I believe the stock ezk retards the timing very low in the revs because it builds the boost way too early in the revs.

I assume Wiseco B230FT Turbo pistons, so 8.0-to-1 CR, just like stock, and a stock MAF, and a stock T cam, and a stock intercooler.

What turbo are you running that boosts to "16-17 turned all the way down" ?

The 390cc injectors are ~20% bigger than the stock 330cc injectors, which may be close enough for the ECU to correct (learn) for the higher flow.

I'd think that this setup would work pretty well for most of the operating range. What exactly is the problem? IIRC, the Turbo ECU only cuts fuel above ~6200rpm.

If you post a picture, or pictures, showing both ends of your installed daughterboard, I can probably guess what's wrong. Pictures need to be resized to < 1MByte each to be attached here, or host them elsewhere and include the links here.

It’s got a pretty violent cutout when I go any more than quarter throttle and it builds boost. Also it feels like it’s building boost way too early in the rev range. I believe the ezk is retarding the timing drastically. I can give it like a little more than quarter throttle and it builds all the boost but feels like the engine kinda bogged and not making optimum power. And then any more throttle and it fuel cuts. Not sure about the turbo. I talked about it above here.

Check that your rubber turbo hoses aren't collapsing. Do you have a WBO2 gauge? What's it doing before/during/after the problems?

Unfortunately no wideband at the moment. Hmmm that’s an interesting thought about the hoses. I’ll look into that.

Ugh... I'm awful at SMT assembly. Yours is borderline OK but too much solder. You could use some solderwick to remove ~50% of the solder on the SMT chip, but I don't think that's the problem. It's only a problem if there's pin-to-pin shorting under the chip where you can't see it easily.

What is the part number on the SMT chip? It should be a 74HC573. If it's a 74AC573, then it's a much faster chip that can generate lots of electrical noise, especially when run across connectors with 2-layer PCBs.

Does it still work OK with the jumper in the other position? Does it run at all with the external EPROM? With key on but not running, can you get a 1-1-1 diag code from socket #6 (EZK)?

I am currently running a set of flying brick chips in my 940. 3 inch maf, S60R injectors, 19t turbo, IPD cam.

Car runs and drives well. My only issue is a slightly low idle, but overall for a "one size fits most" set of chips, they work well.

I'm in a similar boat and have a couple cents to throw. I received my chips and daughterboard from redblockpowered but I did have to kind of spam him on Instagram. I will be installing the chipped and daughterboarded ecu and ezk once I have all my other ducks in a row (3" MAF ready, 42lb injectors ready, fuel rail, wasted spark coil bits set up, etc.).
I bought a wasted spark chip off Flying Brick on Etsy and it arrived within a week, any and all questions I've had are answered very fast.

I'm running into a similar issue in which my engine does not like being in boost. I recently swapped in a 16T and, although I'm running the same boost level as my 12B, my car will lean out and fuel cut. My guesses are that I'm moving too much air volume for the 2.5" MAF and little 33ish lb/hr v70r injectors, or I simply have some hose clamps to snug up.

I have an AEM wideband and can watch the AFRs throw themselves super lean anytime I'm getting even close to 6 psi.
I did notice that if I slowly crack the throttle open it will lean out much faster in boost then when I just lead foot it.

I appreciate the word. That sounds like exactly how my car is acting. I’ll be careful driving it around with it leaning out like that. How long exactly did it take for your chips to come in from him? You’ll have to let me know how the car performs after the chips are in.

I went through a few chips and have had mixed results.

Currently running RedBlockPowered chips and they seem to work the best (although there have been issues for other people lately). I tried FlyingBircks and the car wouldn't run. No fuel pump pulse with ignition key on. He said he was going to send me a new fuel chip after a few months he ended up refunding my money, so take that for what's it worth. I have been considering a standalone system for a while, but my driving season is short and I have accepted that the current set up is "good enough"

Mine took about two months but at the month and a half mark I just started dming him almost every day. He eventually got back to me and said that the reason my order was taking so long is because he was waiting for a 3.5 bar fpr to become available from Delphi. I told him I'd just like a refund for the fpr and the package was sent and delivered within 4 days.
My injectors are rated at 43 lb at 3 bar but the tune is set up for 3.5 bar. I think I'm just going to get a racetronix adjustable fpr and squeeze it up to 3.5 bar.
