Comfort spring recommendation front + rear for non-coilover setups for 240s

I am replacing the springs on my 82' 244 after having IPD overload springs in the rear and diesel springs up front.

I would like to have comfort for road trips and sometimes rough terrain. I am also going to replace my bilstein touring shocks with something softer to go with the springs.

Stock springs seems like what your describing. For shocks if you still want gas shocks. The Koni shocks on comfort setting are awesome. If that doesn't work for you some stock non gas shocks in a quality brand like Sachs or Lemforder is gonna give a comfort ride.

As a step back toward soft (but not full stock 244 springs), consider running the GT springs front (should be significantly lower spring rate than diesel springs), and cut wagon springs on the rear of the sedan. A search will locate the Volvo PN for the GT springs, which I suppose are still available.

Front

1229339 Front std 13 mm wire dia

1229337 Front turbo, 14 mm wire dia (is this the same as the GT coil springs)

Rear

1212426 should be correct.

how are your ebay 100 for 4 swedish car parts gas struts holding up

Any ideas what are the highest quality softest struts that are not $186/piece koni yellows on soft setting?

I heard KYB is crap. The original boges were gas right? For gas it looks like there are not many options...

They were holding up just fine till that red light runner crushed the left front of the car including the strut. I didn't mention them for comfort because they were quite firm and sporty but without the adjustable part like a real koni shock. I think the ride would be decent if you use stock type tires with them. I was using 205-55-15 so lost some ride quality there and with firm shocks you don't have a comfort ride.

KYB has the Gas Adjust ones which I found to be crappy. But the KYB GR2 version I found to be a decent shock. Decent for comfort with stock type tires. I'm using the GR2 on the back of my new wagon and they are comfortable.

Stock Boge shocks for 240 are non gas shocks. They are quite comfortable. Good luck finding them. They were called Boge Automatic. GLT and GT models used Boge gas shocks which are the long insert version where you have to use them without the spacer at the bottom of the housing. Like B6 Bilsteins.

Cool, nice to see you can find some. Look how old that box is.

Edit: The ones in your link are the Boge turbo Gas. I used those before and they may work for you. They are for a comfort ride but are supposed to firm up in the twistys. They were better handling than the stock shocks but had a good ride. They are twin tube gas shocks.

Personally, I haven't had an issue if it's inside storage. But seals can dry up over the years if conditions aren't good for storage. It's kind of the chance you take with that NOS stuff. Those are at least ten years old now. Probably older.....

It's like the old cork valve cover gaskets. You'd open an old box to find this old dried up deceased gasket. Gaskets are really the main NOS stock I've had that was bad on arrival.

Ok, I rolled the dice, doing boge turbos up front, kyb gr2 out back. thanks...200 in total from fleabay

can't find the exact part number for GT front springs, but I'll keep looking

One thing I would suggest adding is the chassis stiffening bars from Volvo both upper and lower and even a strut tower brace. These make the suspension do more of the work instead of flexing the body of the car. Gives you better feel in your steering, too.

I have the lower chassis bars from yoshi, and the firewall to strut tower GT ones...was thinking of adding the strut horizontal brace one day

I don't have any braces left for the new 91 wagon so I may try the Yoshifab lower braces. I will have to find the Volvo upper ones. I do have a cherry turbo strut tower brace I never used so some hoarded parts are going on the new wagon. :w00t:
