Cosbysweater's 242 Daily Driver. PROJECT GRANDPA

Took this car drag racing and honestly it wasn’t nearly as disappointing as I thought. Managed to get 3 14.5s at 101-102mph with a super super soft 2.8 60ft. Not bad for a completely unopened 4.8 with the t56 3.31s and 10+ year old street tires. Didn’t even bother doing a burnout

Surprised the mph wasn't a little higher but a stock 4.8 makes what, 270hp?

I had a lsa blower setup for this car. I was going to swap it onto the stock 4.8 and see what kind of power it made. For once in my life im super excited about not installing a power adder on something. This car has been so reliable i figured if i want more power ill go up in displacement so i dont overcomplicate the car and have to redo the cooling system. I put the lsa on the shelf for something else and managed to score a "known running" ls2 and 4l80e for almost nothing. I did some work for a friend and he had this setup laying around, said if i did some trade work he would give me a good deal on it. i stuck my borescope in it and found 2 pitted cylinder walls, Pulled the pan off and found a bunch of cooked bearings. however, no bearing were spun and the bores cleaned up pretty good. I tore down the engine and cleaned and reasembled everything and installed a used crank. I put new bearings in it and so far so good. I will post some pictures of it, however this is going into the 242. I think the weight savings of the engine and the 1.2L gain in displacement all while using everything thats already in the car is going to work out great for me and what i want out of the car.

Also im going to see if i can get the video of it but this is a legitimate side show pullout, hence the cooked bearings

Got the sideshow 6.0 shortblock back together so far so good. checked the cylinders at the pitted area with some diesel fuel and the rings seem to be pretty evenly sealed between all the cylinder

I know its a little late but did you see the Stay Tuned episode where Tony picks up an Isuzu industrial 6.0 LS for $375? Seems like a killer deal if you can find them.

i saw that, thats insane he got those for that cheap and i highly doubt that will ever happen again tbh. those pullouts sell for around 6000 out this way.

Are you sure 366 cubic inches is going to be BIGM BlOK Chebby enough?

I love that you are going to a 6.0 for a daily.

6.0 is the perfect size for a daily!

i do love the 4.8 though its a great engine and it will be in my backup pile. maybe ill change the spark plugs finally on it......

I just had to mention that also like that you have a Gremlin. It was the affordable family car we had in the 70s. I learned to drive on a yellow X model. It was only a 258 auto mom mobile but I still had a bit of fun drifting in the dirt with it. Yours must be on the crazy fun end of the spectrum. 8-)

Got the ls2 back together. I got a super cheap microsquirt with ls harness so im going to run it on the test stand.

definitely have a issue with hoarding these ls engines but they will all find a home eventually.
