Just to get everyone up to speed with my current set-up. best 1/4 mile time is 13.30 @ 110 mph
  • 93 squirter block with 530 head. Ported with upgraded valve springs
  • RSI stage 2 cam
  • Getrag 5 speed swap
  • Microsquirt
  • Sweden Exhaust stainless tubular manifold
  • Garrett clone GTX3071R .82 A/R stainless turbine housing running about 15 psi
  • GFB 44 external wastegate
  • LS coils
  • Deka 80 injectors &AEM 340 E85 compatible in-tank pump
  • Running E85
  • Late Model Isuzu NPR intercooler. Under pulls IATs are nice and cool
  • Snow Performance Meth Injection

Clutch doesn't hold at this power now and I want to get more out of the 3071. 400 whp sounds nice. I don't do much street driving. The car is not comfortable to drive at all and I'm not allowed to drive it to work. The kids and wife won't ride in it. So it's car shows and drag racing.

  • Yoshifab 235mm flywheel with the FX400 clutch.
  • 48/40mm valves. The head is going to need machine work anyway
  • KL racing intake manifold with 80mm TB
  • Better cam (but which one?)
  • ARP hardware
  • New rods I've probably been pushing my luck on the stock ones
  • Run new fuel line to keep up with everything
  • I'll have a machine shop check bore and deck the block if needed. Replace crank bearing if needed too.
Should I go MLS head gasket and how thick? Any other weak points I should upgrade?

Surprises me that your kids wouldn't go for a drag racing ride with you. Most kids like a thrill. Seems like a good strong build. Enjoy!
It's too loud and scary for them. They rode it in once and were not fans. I've tried a bunch to get them mildly interested in dad's cars but other than the sim rig they couldn't care less. Maybe if I had a pink car with unicorns on it.

I think even IPD turbo cam would be better than RSI stage 2, but if you aren't worried about drivability maybe look at some of the big cams from KL racing?

I think your head and intake is the bottle neck at the moment. Get those flowing better and I can definitely see 400whp.

Just make sure the CC is deshrouded as much possible around the big valves or you're wasting your time

Yeah they probably need some work. They look like this right now. I was looking at either an ENEM cam or KL's cams

Maybe irrelevant here, 1984 240 had O2 at end of exhaust manifold (somewhat analogous to your setup), but then put O2 sensor several feet downstream on later models. Unknown why they change it...was it heat related damage to O2 or were combustion gases mixed better for sensing.

Probably better sensing. You get a better mix of the cylinders further down. Mine is on my downpipe and I have an aftermarket manifold.

If you're getting into engine work you could work out your squish height. Measure your piston height above/below the deck and have the block skimmed to suit.
The head could also be skimmed to raise compression and then you could choose a mls gasket thickness to get the squish height just right. The mls gaskets like nice clean surfaces anyway.
I chose a gasket thickness similar to a standard gasket just in case I need to replace it in a hurry.

I’m planning an eerily similar build. I think 400 is about max from what you can get out of the v16t cam from enem, the k13t looks like it might give you a little more.

Might I suggest one of the ground-to-suit cams from AGAP (or a vendor of your choice)? The "race" lobes from AGAP seem appropriate for this application.
I've never heard of them and looking at their product list I don't know enough about cams to know which one to get honestly.

On enems listings. The K15T was the maximum cam with stock diameter followers. Doug(Hank Scorpio) used one in his build long ago. I heard it run at Carlisle one time and it was a beastly sound.

Email them. They're very helpful, and with as much detail as you have with your combination and use case scenario, it should be a slam dunk. So are their parts catalogs, but that's another discussion.

After seeing AGAP and Enem cams back to back, I’d go Enem hands down. Much better quality on the grinding and finishing work.

But if OP really wants to make the jam, he just needs that Erland special like @Stiggy Pop has

This echoes what Erland said when we were chatting. In an email he wrote:

"Sometimes I had lobes and buckets look ugly after running in on cams from AGAP. Then I have polished the bucket on 600 emery on a flat plate and polished the lobe and after that it was OK"

And yes, the Erland special is a ripper! I've had people ask me if the car had a ported rotary swap because the idle chop is so boss.
