Desert Meet 2025, Sept 5-7, 2025, Reno/Fallon, Nevada

^^^That cylinder head looks like it had a blown gasket between the cylinders.

"A rock took out his timing belt while on the dirt track. Bent an exhaust valve on cylinder 3."

You gotta pay to be one of the cool no timing belt cover guys...

Looks like a fun time.

It blew in the past, this head has been on 3 different engines.

The cover bolt locations are in the same spot on Penta and automotive blocks/heads.

So Pieter could have just slapped a standard timing belt cover on.
But I didn't have an extra when I built the engine, and didn't want to take the balancer off cuz I'm a lazy fuck

Ohh the dirty laundry about Penta finally comes out
I can't find the picture, but the timing gear on the 2.5 in the 242 was stuck on. After several hours of trying, the welder came out and made a puller out of a spare wrench

Don't forget the bent intake valve for the last however many miles as well.

Gotta say, only at a TB meet would you have someone throw a belt, bend a valve, have it off and parts sourced in under an hour, in the middle of the desert, followed by a successful valve swap and grind on a plywood bench, at midnight, in the same sandy desert, while the horses and mules watched in amazement/disgust.

Speaking of, how's the mileage and power with #4 in better shape?

I’m bummed I missed this. Reminds me of the old western meet/slo days

24mpg over the hill going 75 the whole way, with the iffy FPR, something is going on with my fuel delivery, some bucking around 12psi, the cheapo fuel pump may also be going out

The mules and horses were there for the show.

Pump could very easily be it. Mileage ain't bad at all.

Erik...the rally course surfing, engine swap and head work was definitely WM-esque. lol
