Diesel swap

Those oil temp gauges were most often seen in the V6 B28F and B280F 760 and 780 cars I believe. They do exist.... what I am not able to remember for certain is if they are intended to install in the upper left of the gauge cluster (like the voltmeter does) or the upper right (in place of boost gauge).

That is interesting to hear reports from both of you on the noise and refinement of the 5-cylinder not being as quiet or smooth as you had hoped for. I guess this is probably the only advantage the 6-cylinder D24 and D24T still have..... :-)

Yeah but the D24 is also loud sounding, AAT/AEL on Audis are surprisingly smooth and quiet for mid 90's engines!

Thanks for the gauge info, I gonna try to find one but it's not gonna be easy. According to this picture, it's going on the left corner.

To me its not necessarily the loudness that bothers me, but the lack of 5cylinder noises. Maybe the loud operation hides it, i do not know. If this is 100% the reason and i knew this beforehand, i would have certainly started with an electric pump... :D

Do it! so we can be sure the problem is the mechanical pump! (my brain is not ready for such modification...)
But I remember my Audi A6 AAT has less 5 zyl smoothness than my friend's AEL, every engine is different even with an electric pump!

What oil are you running on this engine?

I'm sure you do not want to touch it now, even after 4 years im still in this state :)
But its one way to find out!

I use Elf evolution 10w40 700 turbo diesel. So far no issues, lifters seem to be quiet, survived trackdays too.
