75 244 - 850 t5 engine with manual. This is gf car that she just wants a mild hot rod and be “reliable”

Maxxecu Street. No VVT, single throttle, idle valve, so on.

75 245 (my car) - 2005 rn engine with exhaust vvt 1 still on the fence if I want to run vvt, might also swap heads later (?) Manual trans daily with k24 or t19. I have both. I hate to tinker with tuning especially if I have to email vast

Maxxecu Race. Get a dual VVT head (because torque all the time). Put a DCT in it (DO EET). keep e-throttle, knock, add fuel pressure, oil pressure, and yeehaw on.

75 242. My best friends car… he has dreams of making a “monster” but this is a car for his wife so it has to be auto out of 960. Right now he picked up a 110k mile 2009 turbo donor car that was wrecked

Also race unit, to control the transmission. I have tested and working 341E calibrations

live tuning with support from your favorite goofball.

That seems like a decent deal. I went with the FuelTech FT450 for my manual redblock since I am not running electronic throttle control. The integrated screen really makes it a super budget ECU.

The ECUmasters SICMA connectors are a billionty times better than the MaxxECU molex CMC BS. I don’t wish the molex cmc connectors on the worst enemy.

No comment on capability / price of EMU Black vs. MaxxECU.

To me, one of most compelling reasons to use MaxxECU is they sell a pre-terminated wiring harness for the B5234T engines, and have a base map available to download. Those two items significantly cut down the amount of time and number of potential errors in getting a standalone ECU fired up and driving.

I looked quickly and wasn't able to see if ECUMaster's available base maps include a B5234T. ECUMaster doesn't sell a premade harness, just a flying lead harness. Some extra time/work but you definitely save money compared to buying a MaxxECU finished harness.

My grief with the ecu masters wiring harness is that it costs 1200 so there’s no way I’m buying that

I got a tune on my 850 which will basically be the same as the 75 245 (unless I go e throttle) so maybe I can use that as a start

I was planning on going manual throttle on my white block, I’m a bit unclear if ecu masters supports that

MaxxECU just changed the connectors on the new Gen 2 Race they released a couple weeks ago. I imagine we'll see the same on the rest of the lineup soon.

The superseal 1.0 connectors are a huge upgrade over the Molex CMC.

ECUmasters
Less support stateside in the Volvo community vs MaxxECU. The product seems decent, the drift crowd seems to really like them.

It’ll do what you want, and ECUmasters USA has been great to deal with whenever I’ve had to purchase parts/connectors from them.

I think the MaxxECU harness is actually pretty reasonably priced for what it is, but yeah, it’s not cheap. I bet that by the time you buy the crimp tools and materials to make your own harness of equal quality, you’ll have spent at least as much as buying the harness from MaxxECU; and that’s not counting your time, even at $0.17/hour.

The tune in your 850 is nowhere close to being usable on a standalone ECU. The factory Motronic 4.3 ECU handles the engine control maps (parameters) in a completely different way than either a MaxxECU or EMU Black would. If you’re set up to tune your 850 yourself and didn’t buy an OTS tune, then you could use that information to set up the aftermarket ECU and get the tables in the ballpark, but you’ll still need to tell it how to interpret the crankshaft position sensor signal, the camshaft position sensor, how to interpret the MAF or build a MAP table if you don’t use a MAF, and if you don’t stat cable throttle, tell it how to have the pedal control the e-throttle actuator.

I saw that, I’m still leaning toward Maxx since my buddy will need maxx for his auto trans (like a loser) and I’m a loser that will have to spend $800 more to be his friend

Jack, sit down and look at the documentation side by side.

That is my suggestion.

The amp superseal 1.0mm pins are nice to work with. The cavities make pin ejection a breeze. The EcuMasters hardware is sturdy and the software appears to be well built (not a resource hog, exposes more parameters than you will likely ever touch, etc.)
