Yeehaw! Those tires are tiny on the black wheels, what size are they? 195/50-15?

I'll have to check. They are beyond shot, so I didn't pay attention to them at all. At some point we need to pull the wheels apart and refresh them.

I managed to get the VX cam out. I went to put the M cam back in and figured out I have two B230 cam cover gaskets, but none for the b23. This is the first step in going back to stock on the white car, next week the IPD suspension gets pulled out.

I found a tan tweed driver seat at the jy. It isn't perfect, but it's 100 times better than the brown one we had. If the kid runs this seat for any length of time we'll need new foam and maybe a back frame. The kids got the seat steam cleaned and installed.

The kid turned 13 in December, so we better get moving on this project. I'm sure he'll have his permit on his 15th birthday and he'll be bugging me to drive everyday after that.

This round of work he started by scrubbing the trunk out, it had dust/dirt built up everywhere. We need to get a new trunk lid gasket and pair of tail lights.

Then we started on the big rust hole. The sound deadner had to be peeled out (sadly we don't have a pic of me with a torch in one hand and the oscillating tool in the other), then he hit it with a wire brush, then a heavy coat of rust reformer paint.

Then I laid a bead of silicone around the hole and we pressed on a heavy plastic sheet to help keep moisture out of the car. This is just a bandaid, once the car is running well we'll drive it to a body shop and get it repaired correctly.

He already has a parts stash.

We replaced the lower door hinge. Of course I'm no expert at lining up panels, so we need to adjust it again.

We replaced the rear bumper too. Turns out we got the 83 bumpers, so we either need another set of bumpers or a full set of trim. These aren't perfect, but I p[lan on pulling them off and restoring them.

It's hard to get a good before and after shot while the car is sitting in the driveway, but we've started trim replacement. The wheel well trim, lower door, and lower rocker trim all got removed. The bad belt line trim pieces have been off for a while now. The lower door trim and lower rockers have all been painted with SEM trim paint. We'll get the rocker trim back on, but the belt line and door base trim will wait till after we can give the car a good polish.

While the trim was off he worked hard at removing all the adhesive, then he learned how to polish. The paint felt almost like chalkboard, now it's buttery smooth.

Painting the trim and rockers with SEM paint made a huge difference. So much that it's on my list of projects for my car now.

For anyone wanting to pull and reapply all the lower door trim, be prepared with the 3M trim tape. I didn't think to measure and bought 4x 5ft rolls at the auto parts store...it takes about 8ft of tape for each front door. At $10 a roll it's not cheap. I think 6 rolls will cover the project when we're all done. We still don't have all the trim on, so I'm going to look for a bulk roll.

You're so lucky your son is into cars. Side note, you can buy double side tape on Ebay for way cheaper. And it's already cut to width. Also thank you for doing it the correct way. I know it's a pain but it will last another 20 years.

We're getting in gear to make some real progress on the car. A whole box of stage 0 parts from FCP showed up. So far we got a new timing belt and water pump in. We were putting in a B cam with STS gear when a stud snapped in two. Lucky I was able to pull it out easily and I have a spare head to grab a replacement from.
