Explorer 8.8 rear axle, vented brake discs?

Hi

I am in the middle of fitting a Ford Explorer 1999 rear axle to my Volvo 264 and started thinking about upgrading the disc brakes. It now has solid rotors but Summit sells both vented and solid rotors for this rear axle. I think they will not fit if I want to use the OEM Ford calipers, but I am not shure. Has anyone of you guys tried something similar?

I just need the vented rear rotors, no "bling" calipers. I think OEM Ford calipers will do fine.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Thanks for the input, that is a possible solution. I have changed my mind somewhat and would like to have vented rear discs with internal parking brake and Wilwood calipers. Do you think this is doable?

The discs have to be nearly the same diameter as the oem discs. I was thinking to use the discs from another 8.8 axle, maybe mustang discs could fit? Or are the breaking system totally different?

Any input is much appreciated.

Why would you not use the discs posted, just with wilwood calipers then? Those are 11.8" rotors that are bolt in, correct backspacing, correct hat for ebrakes.

I had to check that site once more to see that the discs was vented. I would really like to know if those discs are custom made or from a production vehicle. That is just what I am looking for minus the rest of the stuff. Perhaps it is the same discs that Summit sells? I have to do some more research.

Thanks a lot. Now I have something to work with, have to contact Wilwood for some calipers all around, floating 300-315mm discs up front and custom hats and adapter plates fro the front calipers. There ought to be some Wilwood calipers that bolt straight in on the Explorer axle?

I'm going to mount wilwood calipers outback on my 8.8. I was going to cut a steel bracket and weld it on. I'm going to use a stock replacement rotor since the front wilwood setup is not drilled. I bought some 1.125 calipers for the .813 rotor and will make some spacers for the pads to accommodate the thinner stock rotor.

I believe the come from Ford E Series vans.... you'd need to hit a JY and confirm though.

Ford E series van you say? Is that front or rear? I assume rear. Will check it out. Thanks!
Strange thou that Summit sells a vented disc that is listed to fit Explorer, rear?

Well, rear of course. They need hats for the ebrakes, front rotors are not going to have that.:-P

The rotor you posted is an 11.2" rotor. Just appears to be an aftermarket vented rotor for the standard 1996-2001 exploders.

Incidentally, very late explorers (not exactly sure on years, 2010-, maybe starting earlier) use an 11.8" vented rotor.

They have IRS though so I have no idea if the hat/offset is right.

From http://thefordsource.com/REAR-BRAKE-BRACKET-KIT-MGT-M-2300-M.htm:

- Used to install Mustang Cobra, Mach 1, or Special Edition rear calipers on a 1994-2004 Mustang GT
- Kit includes production 11.65" rotors, caliper mounting brackets, moan braces, dust shields and dust shield bolts

EDIT: And gold star to me for updating an almost 3 year old thread!
