240 Favorite oil

Wondering what oil to put in my 240 and 122. Live in Oregon, so a moderate environment generally. Like to rev both of them up and run them fairly hard. Castrol GTX? Or Castrol High Mileage? Some have told me to stay away from synthetics. The 240 has 250,000. The 122 is a B20 that was rebuilt a few years ago by previous owner who was using Mobil 1, so I put that in when I first purchased. But, it has a small leak which I guess can happen with older cars and synthetics. So, thinking I should go back to a conventional oil. Any insights much appreciated!

I live up by seattle. I run Rotella 15W40. Essentially diesel motor oil. Has lots of extra detergent and anti foaming that works well for our extreme mileage motors.

Everyone has an opinion.

I've been really happy with the Chevron Delo400LE full synthetic version 5w-40 diesel oil. Lots of zinc, doesn't have to pass emissions in diesels.

Rather buy a cat once in a great while or pollute very slightly more due to the zinc and other detergents than need an engine is how I look at it.

I've used Wal-Mart's house brand "Super Tech" for quite awhile and am happy with it.

Dino, not synthetic.

5W-30 in winter, 10W-30 otherwise.

I change oil and filter (always use a Mann filter) more often than most do.

50/50 blend of synthetic 5W-30 and dino 10w-40 this winter with no cold start issues due to oil viscosity. Think 7.5W-35.

From what I understand, most name brand oils are pretty good. Modern oils aren't going to damage your motor if changed with regularity.

I personally use Mobil 1 0w-40 and mag1 5w-40 synthetic in my cars. Mobil 1 is always a safe choice.

Run a 25% blend of dino oil to keep the seal fat and happy.

IE:

3 qts mobil1 & 1 QT delo.

I have a cheapish source for 15w40, we use it in Forklifts, including those that run in cold warehouses or refrigerated stockrooms.

Been running M1 in my fleet for 10 years or so, 10w40 in the R, 15w50 in my wagon, 10w40 in the 140. Pulled the cam cover on the R last year, no wear and a light yellow color on the alum, no deposits, with 275k on the motor. Hard to complain with those results. :)

Castrol 0w40 in the Audi and Volvo. If it's good enough for 10k change intervals in the Audi it's good enough for the 240.

Now we know who the baller is around this place....

Haha, I did my research on a lot of oils and found this to have a good additive package for shim bucket and roller design engines. Plus it's actually made from synthetic base stock where most synthetic oils are not but from Court ruling on some wording get to deceive the public by stating its synthetic

It's like a group 5 base stock compared to a group 4 base stock

Rebuilt engine

What oil would you use on a rebuilt engine. Going to put it in this weekend and start the brake in with standard oil 10w-30. Running 20 min. then cool down 3 times-change oil (10w-30) 3 more times running 20 min. then cool down and change oil to ????? yet. Any thoughts on what you used after a brake in?
