sweet....i think i might have a T4 on the cheap near me.....engines a little buggered i`m going to speak to him sometime find out how bad it is..........might be worth a play :-P

Oh noes, a 98! Looks pretty smart though.

Ozzy, don't bother with a T4, they suck :-P  Unless, ofcourse you like Torque Steer, Understeer in the wet, unimpressive ride quality, bad build - only thing it did well was wear front tyres :-(

:omg: there was me thinking they were a little fun......bah well it has crap rims on it anyway! :-P

It's a late 98 so likely 99 model year. If the suspension does play up i'll swap in phase 2 front suspension. Been wondering if a 850 15g is swap in for the 12t turbo combined with one of freds chips for over 200hp

The 2.0T is supposed to be pretty weak for tuning, 200bhp you should be alright but any more the thin cylinder walls and rods become problematic. Have a read on the VOC about people tuning the 2.0T, usually not to great results :(

99 model year would be desirable imo! As a plus point they are very safe for a mid 90's car too!

EDIT: Judging by the air con / recirc buttons its a 99 car :D

The T4 14t is a direct swap, common issues are cam position sensor codes (sludge in the VVT gear, easy fix). These motors just seem to be more prone to sludging than 5cyls... must be the maintenence they get due to their lower price.

I would keep it stock, no reason to mess with something that reliable.

If it looks dirty inside it'll get flushed and fed nice oil. Likely a bit of advance on the intake cam and a little retard on the exhaust. Thats how my s70 runs best if it's not a vvt engine

The 160hp motor should be exhaust side only VVT. I wouldnt mess with the cam timing on it, I would however, get the ECM update if it hasn't been done. It snaps the exhaust cam to retard and advance faster to keep from throwing CMP codes. My sisters car had the same issue where the check engine light would come on and off, on and off, every now and then she would set it off with an odd drive cycle.

Other than that, I've had no trouble with the motors. Rotella T synthetic 5w40 made a huge difference in the sludge production..... and its probably psychological... but it made the car feel a bit better too.

just send it to Autotech :D
